The Hairy Prince

Introducing The Hairy Prince, Mr Rambutan. His actual name is Mr Rambo Tan, and some blur sotong mistype his name and becomes Rambu Tan, and subsequently the name Rambutan derived. Well, well.. He is also known as Ang Moh Tan (红毛丹) within the chinese community.

Ang Moh Tan (or Red Hair Tan) loves to wear red-red tei baju. Ever wonder why he is so hairy? cos Ang Moh are normally more hairy mah... That's why.

At times he wears other baju - Green baju, Orange baju, Yellow baju, Light Red baju, Dark Red baju etc... So colorful, so Ah Beng :P

Whatever it is, Mr Rambutan is very Lengchai, right? :P

p/s: Don't over consume Mr Rambutan as he places a "heaty curse" on those who over makan his relatives or his species.

Yummy Sweet Potatoes

So many tags piling up (luckily haven't reach the ceiling yet), I better clear some before things went out of control. I will oblige to the Fansi, Fansi, Who Art U? aka sweet potato tag by LB. Since this is an easier one, compared to other tags :P

I feel like listing everyone here but too many liao. Let's see how many sweet potatoes I have. (Bought those cooked orange, yellow and purple sweet potatoes from Cameron Highlands during my previous visit in 2006). 7 sweet potatoes visible in the picture, so I will pick up 7 sweet potatoes (note : to be eaten later). namely sweet potato Ah May, sweet potato Ah LB, sweet potato Ah Angel, sweet potato Ah Daydreamer, sweet potato Ah Misti, sweet potato Ah Butt and sweet potato Ah Ehon.

#1 sweet potato Ah May

# 2 sweet potato Ah LB

# 3 sweet potato Ah Angel

#4 sweet potato Ah Day Dreamer

#5 sweet potato Ah Misti

#6 sweet potato Ah Butt

#7 sweet potato Ah Ehon

Who am I tagging? Those sweet potatoes who were listed up there but haven't been tagged yet, consider yourself tagged. And to those who have been tagged but not yet do the tag, consider yourself being tagged again. Those who have answered the tag, u can join me eating the remaining sweet potatoes. The Tag is simple. List your Fan Shue Fan-see. Fantasize about them if you must. Paint a picture. Kkkkkk... jom, mari makan sweet potatoes. Yum yum.

Nyonya Nyonya Nyonya

I met up with my beloved Nyonya again on Monday night. This was the 6th time I met up with her and the followings were the cheong hei & cheong si-fatt "records" during our previous meet up. Take note of the duration of time we spent together. Kkkkk...

1) King Crabs Restaurant, followed by KTZ dessert shop (from 8 pm till 1 am) = 5 hours
2) Deustche Gashauss followed by karaoke and sha-lalala at RedBox karaoke (from 7:30 pm till 3:30 am) = 8 hours
3) One Noodle followed by Thong Kee Restaurant (from 1 pm till 9:30 pm) = This one break records. 7 hours inside One Noodle followed by another 1:30 hours, in total 8.5 hours
4) New Lane (from 7 pm till 10 pm) = 3 hours
5) New World Park ( from 7 pm till 9:30 pm) = 2.5 hours
6) New Lane ( from 7 pm till 10 pm) = 3 hours (18th June 2007)

No one will feel bored when nyonya is around. We can talk and yak till the cows come back home. Moooooooooooooooo...

And these were the food and drinks both of us had that night (2 orang aje makan semua ni)...
1) Chee Cheung Chuk
2) Oh Chean (Oyster Omelette)
3) Chee Cheung Fun
4) Penang Fruit Rojak
5) Curry Mee
6) Apom Manis (5 pieces) - Nyonya's all time favourite
7) Muar Chee
8) Almond Tong Sui
9) Ais Kacang
10) Carrot Milk
11) Starfruit juice

Keng Mou? No photos of hawker food cos I malas ambil gambar :P

Thanks nyonya for the gigantic 巨无霸 Bak Chang. Don't play-play woh. I purposely place a 10 cent coin next to it as comparison of size. I weighed the bak chang cos curious mah. Wow.. a freaking 1.25 kg !! Nyonya carried 5 gigantic Bak Chang back home to Penang (I saw 5 gigantic chang from her post. Mmmm, the total weight of all the gigantic bak chang should be heavier than her luggage. Kkkk

What shape is this ah? This is the first time I savour such a huge bak chang. *Grin*

So far I have only eaten 1/3 of the chang. To be continued tomorrow :P

端午节 (Duan Wu Jie) 2007

It's the time of the year again. Bak Chang Festival or Duan Wu Jie (端午节) or Dragon Boat Festival. Since the festival is just around the corner, one can see 粽子/rice dumplings "everywhere". Okie okie, I exaggerated :P

I just finish watching 《阿贤人情味》端午节特备节目(Taste with Jason) on Astro AEC. Wow, nowadays they even have rice dumplings with whole abalone (of course pricey lah RM 198 per gigantic 1 kg 巨无霸粽子 with 15 types of different fillings including whole abalone & shark fins).

Miss the home made bak chang or ham yuk chung & the kee chang or kan sui (alkaline) chung. Yeap, I used to help my mum preparing the ingredients, wrapping up & tied the bak chang prior to cooking in the past. Miss those days. Yeah, some blur Sotong might not know when is the actual day for this festival - which falls on the 5th day of the 5th month in lunar calendar = 19.6.2007 (Tuesday).

With so many different varieties of 粽子 or rice dumplings available, which one is your favourite? Curi Angel's phrase : ♪ ♫ 粽子, 粽子, 我爱你 (zhong zhi, zhong zhi wo ai ni...) ♪ ♫

KFC

Whenever I use the abbreviation KFC when commenting or chatting @ YM or MSN, I will get the following response from those Blur Sotong who catches no ball - What's that KFC? Why KFC out of all sudden? Some cheeky one might reply me with McD pulak. Mmmmm....

I am NOT referring to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Kentucky Fried Chicken is not my cuppa tea. Never...
Nope, not LB' favourite finger licking good ayam goreng KFC.

What I meant by KFC is none other than... Keep Fingers Crossed.

15th June 2007

Today is 15th June 2007. It is amazing how fast time flies. Without us realising, half of the year 2007 has gone (with the wind?). And not only that, 15th June 2007 is also a milestone to me, as it marks my 10th year in service. I can still remember clearly what happened 9 years ago (15th June 1998) when I just joined the service, reported duty to Ministry of Health and started my profession in Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching. Happy Working Anniversary? Nah...

Should I continue on with what I'm doing now? Or should I venture into a different field (for a change?). Should I embark on a new journey and start a new chapter? Mmmmm... Well, it's almost 1 am. Time to hit the sack & Zzzzzz.

p/s: And Yee Hon at one point thought I'm probably only a few years elder than him - like around 24-26 years old. Wah... Kkkkkkk...

Ben Ben strikes..

Ben Ben was in town last week. Luckily he didn't paint the town red. Visit Penang must go makan-makan - especially Duck Egg Char Koay Teow, Penang Assam Laksa & Penang Chendol.

Ah Ben busy taking photo of the ho chiak Duck Egg Char Koay Teow in Sin Hwa Coffee Shop. I noticed itu budak loves "salty" stuff. Kkkkkk... Cos he added in extra soy sauce into the CKT. Besides CKT, we ate Penang Assam Laksa and Lemak Laksa (Siam Laksa) from the same shop but different stalls. I didn't take any food photo cos Ah Ben will post them up in his blog :P

After lunch we went jalan-jalan to Kek Lok Si Temple. The weather so hot, can die. We were so dehydrated and almost pengsan half way while walking uphill. Luckily no heat stroke. Really beh tahan. Felt much better after drinking the iced cold mineral water :P Ah Ben said my face was flushing red like tomato due to the intense heat & sweating.. LOL

Stopped by the famous "longkang assam laksa" in Air Itam Market for a bowl of Penang Assam Laksa. Yeah, both of us share one bowl cos we were still full from the previous makan session. Ah Ben was worried seeing the amount of chili cos he dun take hot & spicy foodstuff. Thanks to the refreshing iced coconut drink, we felt more energetic.

Next was a short trip around town (driving of course, no energy to walk liao) and we stopped by the esplanade for a short moment of Kodak Session before heading to Fort Cornwalis (to meet Sir Francis Light, don't play-play).

Dunno why this Ah Ben felt high-high tei. Instead of his ritual trademark io ka chng, he busy dancing on the street pulak. So artistic. *Faint*. I won't post photos of Fort Cornwalis (Hehehe, visit Ah Ben's coming post for the pict).

Following that, Ah Ben having a good time teasing and kacau-ing the black-black tei talkative bird. And the good thing was.. the bird answered him back. Hahhahaha

Prior to leaving the historical fort, we left our foot prints signature behind.. (Must act like tourists). Ahem.. Ah Ben with his cute little "Boing Boing".

Then we sapu the famous Penang Teochew Chendol (at Lebuh Keng Kwee off Penang Road). Phua Chu Kang & Rosie visited the stall too. Hehehhe.. Dropped by the old Chowrasta Market and the gigantic second hand bookstalls. Chowrasta Market is the place to buy Penang local foodstuff such as tau sar pneah, dodol, nutmegs, preserved fruits, belachan, durian cake etc etc. Ah Ben phobic seeing the number of flies savouring the preserved fruits.

Following that, we wanna try our luck- passing by Liucas' house hoping to see him, but too bad we didn't manage to meet up with him. I guess Liucas drove his Ferrari out somewhere, going kai kai. The final trip of the day was to meet the naughty cute and adorable Ah Boy. Kkkkkk....

Kuih Bakul Kuih

Seeing the "3-layered-kuih" will always remind me of Chinese New Year. One slice of Tee Kueh/Nian Gao/年糕/Kuih Bakul (sweet, sticky glutinous rice cake ) sandwiched in between one slice of yam and another slice of sweet potato; dipped into batter prior to deep fried. Dunno what is the name of the kuih though. Kuih Bakul Kuih? LOL. Dun care lah. Sapu aje.

The first time I came across it was during Chinese New Year more than a decade ago - when I spent the festive seasib together with my coursemate in her hometown in Ipoh. During my university days, I didn't go back home during Chinese New Year coz the semester break was too short for me to travel long distance back home to Sarikei.

p/s: Btw, I didn't fried the kuih myself. I bought it from the food stall. Kkkkkkk..

World Milk Day

Malaysia is celebrating World Milk Day today (11th June 2007) in KL Sentral (from The Sun newspaper) with free carton of UHT milk given to commuters (courtesy of Tetra Pack). The World Milk Day is celebrated worldwide on 1st June, founded by FAO (the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the UN) in 2001. Many countries have arranged activities to honour milk in all its forms and shapes.

The highlight of the event in KL Sentral was Mr Moo - the friendly cow who joined Tetra Pak team in spreading the message of World Milk Day. Mr Moo was very hardworking and seen walking abround the station, giving away information cards on milk etc. Mr Moo somehow reminds me of Misti (our constant milk provider), Ah MooLah and all the Moos here. Mooooooooooooooooooooooo.....

I LIKE milk. Don't cha? I know there are many out there who loves milk except Day Dreamer, Angel & Winn, with Winn's priceless "quote" of the century, "I dunno why people always assume babies like milk and choke them with milk!! Babies hate milk. That explain why all the babies vomiting or burping milk right after feedings". Hahahha.. That's our beloved Winn. Don't you loves her?

Happy World Milk Day

祝你一路顺风

This is one of the last few songs my ex-classmates (Upper Six Science, SMK Meradong) sang in karaoke in early 1993 (After we received the offer letters from the local universities, and few days prior to our departure to pursue our tertiary education). And that was the last time I met with few of my ex-classmates - Y. Sing, S. Hui, L. Liang, T. Chieong etc. Gosh, that was 15 years ago...

Listening to the song really bring back memories - of my Upper Six Science classmates in SMK Meradong, Sarawak. I still manage to meet up with most of them once a year or once in two years. Time really flies. Without realising, it's now June 2007 and half the year has gone.

I saw a similar picture in the magazine and loved the picture, so I drew and painted one myself, with Pentel Oil Pastel. That was in the mid 90's, and I still have the painting with me up to this day!! Might be I should get myself another box of oil pastel again... and continue back the abandoned hobby...
