31.8.2007

Reminiscing one year back, quite a number of us were busy doing the tag writing the Puisi Merdeka or Merdeka Poems. Seems like most of us are "gifted" with hidden talents in writing poems. *Ahem* Hahahaha. I really have a good laugh reading back the poems that few of us here wrote last year. So fast one year liao....

Selamat Hari Kebangsaan ke-50
Happy Merdeka !!
(happy cos it's public holiday ??? :P)

Buah Jentik

This is the second time I tasted Buah Jentik (aka Baccaurea Polyneura ... ahem, u can just ignore the taugeh scientific name as this won't come out in exam. LOL) . My colleague introduced me to this fruit half a year or one year back. The orange-coloured fruits are small in size ~ 1.5 cm in width and 2.0 cm in length.

Buah jentik has hard and brittle skin. If you snap or flick (jentik) the fruit with fingers, the skin or the shell can be opened easily, hence the name Buah Jentik (or Buah jentik-jentik?).

The dark-orange shiny flesh is sourish in taste with tinge of sweetness. And you can even swallow the seed if you lazy to spit it out !! (Hopefully the seed won't grow and fluorish inside your tummy then, as in the midwife's tales). Kkkkkkk....

Lembu Oh Lembu...

Nowadays, susah nak cari makan.. Even cows are affected. The hungry and desperate Moo Moos have to search for their own food.

Nowadays the cows manyak pandai. Since they couldn't manage to find the fresh juicy grass in the field, they went to do marketing in the wet market instead.

Gigantic Chempedak

Chempedak - the stinky, ugly looking fruit with sticky & yucky white saps. Either you loves it or you hates it. Hahahaha.. Does this reminds you of durian?

This is not the "normal" chempedak, but the Gigantic Chempedak. As you can see from the photo, The pulp is huge, and it's gigantic. It has a thinner layer of husk with less sap (yeah!) . And of coz, it's much more expensive.

The fresh is thick, sweet, juicy and creamy with small seed, (in comparison with the normal chempedak). First Class ichiban mouth watering good stuff. I feel like taking a bite again... Lao Hao Sui... *Heavenly*

p/s: I bought the Gigantic Chempedak in Kuching, Sarawak (nearby The Choice Daily Supermarket in Tabuan Laru, Kuching) in May 2007.

G.H.O.S.T

It's the time of the year again ~ The 7th Month aka Hungry Ghost Festival. Let's talk about Ghost. Have you ever experienced Seeing Ghost mistaken someone as ghost or vice versa (being mistaken as ghost)?

One of the most hilarious moment I had was an incident that occur several years back during my undergraduate time. During those days, I used to play squash with my coursemates cum friends late at night (around midnight). That was a good way for medical undergraduates to release stress & exercise oneself after studying for hours. One late night, after the strenuous squash session, I went back to our hostel rooms together with my other 2 friends. We stayed at the 4th floor and the staircase fluorescent lamps were not working . Although walking in the almost total darkness , we still manage to find our way up (with the help from the moonlight) . Suddenly we noticed 3 white figures standing still at the 3rd floor. I was "in shock" for seconds, thinking of seeing the uninvited guests !! Ahem... Guess what? Those 3 white figures were not ghosts but 3 ladies in white from head to toes (the white clothing Muslim used for their prayers). My goodness... Apparently I was not the only one who mistakened them as ghosts earlier on. Mytwo other friends who walked next to me also shared the similar thinking :P

Another incident was my coursemate cum friend cheekily told me he thought he saw ghost but later he noticed it was me !! Kkkkkkkk... I know he was just pulling my legs. That was the night (during my undergraduate days too) whereby I didn't expect to stay back till so early late in hospital. Earlier on we thought the surgery we wanted to observe will finish before midnight, but who knows.. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the surgery started late, and hence finished late, till 5 am in the early morning. By that time, the medical faculty gate was locked and the guard was no where to be seen (?sleeping). And poor me, coz I left my helmet and jacket inside the locker room in the faculty!!! Bawl :( So, either I rode my motorbike back to the hostel without the helmet or I stayed back inside the ward/hospital till the next morning (it was COLD and I was shivering !!). The hostel was located quite far away from the hospital/medical faculty - it takes 30 minutes to reach the destination if walking with fast pace. All my other friends (who came by car or by bike) had left by then.

After struggling for a while, I decided to ride my bike back to the hostel without helmet. Since I didn't have my jacket with me and it was cold, so I wore my clinical white coat. Since I unbuckled the front buttons of my white coat, U can imagine my white clinical coat flying slightly in the air when I rode my motorbike on the main road from GHKL to Jalan Pahang and back to my hostel (in Jalan Temerloh) in the early morning (5 am). Something similar as batman with the flying cape or cloak? Hahaha...

Do you have any stories to share? ;)

Photo Hunters : Two

Today's topic is Two.

TWO Cents

How u manage your one cent coins? Do u keep the 1 ¢ coin changes u get from the supermarket or fastfood outlet or after payment of bills? Or do u dump the coins aside, like what I do all these while? Does the 1 ¢ coin hold any values? Do u carry these one cent coins inside your wallet/purse? I don't, cos these will made my wallet bulky. I do carry coins but only those more valuable coins, such as 10¢, 20¢ or 50¢ coins. These are just my TWO cents.

Space Invaders

Space Invaders - A simple game with simple graphic which we crazed during our childhood/teenage time. One key feature of Space Invaders was that as more and more aliens were shot, the remaining aliens will move faster and faster. And one interesting fact is, some of the aliens resemble Sotong (aka Octopus). LOL

Yeah, I played the nostalgic game once again few weeks back. Pac Man and Space Invaders were the first few video games we played in the past (in the 80's). Reminiscing the good old times - playing the Space Invaders for hours using Atari video arcade games in my cousin's house or occasionally with the IBM PC with green colored monochrome monitors in school.

Plastic Raffia String

Normally we use the plastic raffia string to tie up things especially plastic bags or boxes. However, I found out another usage for raffia string while seeing a patient in the clinic few weeks back. When I examined my patient, I noticed she used the plastic raffia string instead of belt to tighten her shorts. Yeah, she is one of those from the lower socioeconomic group. I guess she couldn't afford to buy a proper belt and I'm indeed amazed with her idea of using plastic raffia string in replacement of belt. I have seen several poor patients using pieces of clothes as belt but using plastic raffia string? This was the first time...

上海滩

Even though I watched the HK TVB drama series 上海滩 (The Bund) more than two decades ago, but up to this day I could still remember the casts (Hui Man Keong, Ting Lek, Fung Cheng Cheng) and surprisingly, the ending. Imagine how great is the impact. Most of the time I couldn't even remember the ending of the series that I watched few months back. And not forgetting the nostalgic 上海滩 theme song by 叶丽仪 (Francis Yip).

I found the following MTV from YouTube yesterday night.

Temperate Fruits

What happened if one has too much of Tropical Fruits? It's time to indulge in something different... namely Donut Peaches, Red Cherries and Nectarines - the Temperate Fruits.

This was my first encounter with the flat Donut Peach/Doughnut Peach. Am I suaku? At least I know I'm not the only one since Maymay is also in the same boat. Please tell me there are more "suaku" out there who dunno the existence of Donut Peach... LOL. I lup the donut peach with sweet and juicy white flesh ~ I'm lovin' it...

Fresh Red Cherry. It tasted different from the sweet preserved cherries which are loaded with sugars. Instead of the boring Forrest Gump's famous quote "Life is like a Box of Chocolate..", how about "Life is just a Bowl of Cherries"?

Nectarines. Mmmm... nothing special. I want my durian !!! Hahhahhaa...
