Sabah : Tamparuli Suspension Bridge

On our way to Kinabalu Park, we stopped by Tamparuli (a small town in Tuaran District, Sabah). The suspension bridge (built across a river) located next to the marketplace is definitely a point of interest in Tamparuli.

We had to wait for our turn to cross the river since this is a single lane mini "bridge". Mmmm... No lamp posts??? This area must be dark at night time. I won't want to drive across this river at night.. Kalau tersalah pandu, nanti masuk sungai pulak !!! No Joke leh :P

We crossed the river and parked our car in Tamparuli Market to try out our balancing skills on the famous landmark in Tamparuli. Should I take deep breath & inhale prior to crossing the suspension bridge? Or should I jump, jump, jump like a clown monkey on the bridge? Or should I....

Hahhaa... Since I'm not pyscho normal, so I decided to just walk across the Tamparuli Suspension Bridge with my normal walking pace and not forgetting to enjoy the scene while walking across the longest suspension bridge in Sabah.

Looking down.... We should not have tunnel vision, right? Must look at things from all possible angles. I guess most people won't want look down when crossing bridge coz of Fear Factor... Although I'm not a curious person, but I would like to know what is below me. Or at least I have to watch my steps. If tersalah langkah & drop into the river then really jia lat :D

View from the suspension bridge. Looking at the river.. Looking at the narrow road/bridge... Looking at the cars.... Looking at The Tamparuli Market... Looking at ?? (whatever things that caught my attention)

The Lao Hao Sui Laksa

In my humble opinion, this Laksa stall serves the best Penang Assam Laksa. Located in Air Itam Market, next to the longkang (drain) not far away from Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang. This place is always packed with people. Noticed the longkang? Misti, this is the Penang Assam Laksa stall next to the longkang that we were talking about that day.

I will have a date here with Winn and hopefully with Cynthia too (since this is her favourite). Who wanna join in The Longkang Date? Albie told me he wanna join (in July 2007). Carcar, May and Angel.. interested to join me? Anyone else? Come come ... Mari mari...

The mouth watering Penang Assam Laksa with thick fish paste soup and generous servings of he kor or prawn paste. RM 2.30 per bowl. Must savour the laksa when it is still pipping hot. So don't waste too much time taking photo! LOL. And remember to drink the soup till the very last drop. *Slurp*

U still ICQ-ing?

Few days ago while chatting online, suddenly ICQ strikes my mind. ICQ was the first chat programme that I used in the past but being abandoned for the past few years. If I didn't remember wrongly, the last time I logged in and chatted using ICQ was .. 4 years back? Out of curiosity, I downloaded the latest version of ICQ (ICQ 5.1) and installed it. Luckily I still remember my ICQ number and password. Yeah... I quickly logged in and checked on my contacts list.

But... as expected, none of them were online. No green flower, not even a single one. All the flowers are red in colour. Give me the feeling of.. looking at hibiscus (all red-red niah).. Notice my nice ICQ number?? I like the last 3 figures 188. Better still if it's 168 :P

Mmmmm... Has everyone abandoned ICQ? I think nowadays most people are using Yahoo Messenger (YM), MSN Messenger, Skype or Google Chat. Those were the days when we used ICQ. Another popular chat programme in the past was mIRC (which I didn't use).

Remembering the nostalgic...
- the cute "oh-ow" sound in ICQ when we received a new message.
- the "tok tok tok" when someone on your contact list go online.
- the voice saying "incoming file transfer" or "incoming chat request" ...

Anyone here still ICQ-ing?

Sabah : The Sabah Museum

This is our first stop on arrival to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah - The Sabah Museum. Located at Old Palace Hill nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

Entrance ticket to Sabah Museum. Recently I develop the habit to keep & collect the entrance tickets to the places that I had visited.

This is the place for tourists to snap photos - to prove & to show others that ... yeah, I had been to Sabah Museum. Since no photos taking are allowed inside the exhibition hall, so I cincai snapped few photos outside the Museum. Cannot go back empty-handed :P

The antique Carcar car of yester-years.... Summore pink colour with wooden doors. Looks cartoonic :D It must be glamour sitting inside one of these cars during the early years :)

This is Kesapang (or Leguminosae). Supposed to be good for stomachache & fever.

Flags of all the states in Malaysia. Seeing the flags reminds me of our Jalur Gemilang song - Berkibar-berkibar di ruang angkasa, Dirgahayu bendera tercinta...

so huge geh this tree trunk...

I get myself the Sabah & Kota Kinabalu road maps ( for RM16.50? Can't remember the exact price...) from the Museum souveneir shop. I found it useful and essential to invest in proper road maps especially when we are travelling on our own. I'm really glad I bought the map or else we sure couldn't find our way to Kinabalu Park the following day.

Brunei-Sarawak-Sabah

Let's continue with the forgotten Brunei-Sarawak-Brunei-Sarawak-Sabah story :D

The route requires several border crossing with several check points for custom and passport and immigration check. Our passports are very "colourful" at the end of the day. "Chop-chop" here and there. Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei) --> Kuala Lurah(Sarawak) --> Limbang --> Kampung Puni (Sarawak) --> Bangar (Brunei) --> Temburong.

There are two rivers along the route, and the only way to cross the rivers is via ferry rides. The first ferry ride was at Kampung Puni, located between the border of Sarawak and Brunei.
This is the shortest ferry ride I ever had !! Look at the distance. And the fare is not cheap. RM8 for such a short distance ferry ride. Really feel like kenak ripped off :P

After crossing the river via ferry at Puni. We were now back in Brunei again - in Bangar, Temburong District.

This is the second ferry ride was in Trusan, located in between Labu, Temburong district (Brunei) and Trusan (Sarawak). The second ferry ride costed us RM 10.

We continued with our journey from Labu(Brunei) to Trusan(Sarawak) --> Lawas --> Merapok(Sarawak) --> Sindumin(Sabah) --> Sipitang --> Beaufort --> Papar --> Kota Kinabalu.

This is summary of the route we took and the town we stopped or passed by throughout the whole journey. Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei) --> Kuala Lurah(Sarawak) --> Limbang --> Kampung Puni (Sarawak) --> Bangar (Brunei, Temburong District) --> Labu(Brunei) --> Trusan(Sarawak) --> Lawas --> Merapok(Sarawak) --> Sindumin(Sabah) --> Sipitang --> Beaufort --> Papar --> Kota Kinabalu.

When Winnism Strikes !!

Winnism strikes my mind when I was thinking of the title of this post. Why Winnism? Is Winnism = A Study of Winn? Dunno. At least "Winnism" is the blog title for http://sapturn.blogspot.com during the early days prior to "Neither Here Nor There".

Yesterday night, I had a Mega Crappy Chat Session with Carcar, Sengkor and Winn. The Mega Crappy Chat Session was much better than the Mega Sales Carnival. We had fun craze and played around with our profile names, besides crappy chat. At least everyone was happy and most importantly our pockets were not hurt at all. The only problem was that I laughed too much during the conversation. Ah Boy thought I was crazy at one point and he kept on starring at me. The poor dog was worried !!

Winn, Carcar, Chen & Sengkor playing :
- Winn is Ghost
- Who is Winn?
- I'm not Winn too
- Then, I'm Winn

Why does this occur? Here is the explanation for this weird phenomena :) Lately, Winn Fever attack few helpless bloggers.. These are the sign & symptoms of Winn Fever - those who kena attack will have confused identity. Luckily the fever is just a mild illness and it's self limiting. Doesn't require any treatment at all. However, the sufferers might have delusions with confused self identity.. Besides mistaken themselves as Winn, some might even thought they are politicians, actors, pets (Liucas & Ah Boy), kungfu stars and... ?? porn star.

At one point during the crappy chat, the sufferers thought they were Semi Value, George Bush, Mahal Tail and Tunku Abdul Rahman !!! Luckily this is a self limiting illness. Those who suffered from this ailment have fully recovered within an hour :)

HOW CRAPPY !! (<-- Sengkor cakap I can use this phrase freely)

9 Weird Things

I just get to know half an hour ago, I kena tagged by zeroimpact on the first day of Raya. Dah lah tak dapat makan lemang, ketupat, rendang, sate bla bla.. kena tagged pulak.. Kakkaka... But since I'm so hardworking, I will answer this tag now... without thinking twice :)

9 weird things about myself. Mmmm...

1) I love old songs. I guess most people know about this. I don't listen to new songs. The songs that I listen to are songs from the 70's till mid 90's. I totally have no idea who is the most popular artists or singers.

2) I don't like to watch movies in cinema. I don't watch VCDs nor DVDs either. Not my cuppa tea. Say No to movies. Say No to DVDs too. Yawning...

3) I love hot & spicy food. Tiada pedas, tiada syiok. Manyak pedas, manyak syiok. Ada urmmphhh...

4) I enjoy riding vehicle with 2 wheels. Be it be bicycles or motorbikes. I miss my mountain bike and my Yamaha Sports 100cc motorbike. VvroommmmMMMmmmm..

5) I prefer eating vegetables than meat. My favourite vege is still bilin jungle fern.

6) I use the same ringtone (夕陽之歌) for my mobile phones for the past 4 years despite changing few handphones. From Nokia 3315 to Nokia 6610i to Nokia N73, still using the same default ringtone.

7) I love photography and I can spend hours taking shots of anything that catch my attention.Up to date my highest record is taking 500+ photos a day :)

8) Talking craps is fun, provided I get someone that I can click with... Just had a mega crappy chat session with Carcar, Sengkor and Winn in MSN few hours back. How crappy.

9) And last but not least.. I just discover the fun and the joy of spamming commenting non stop in comment box. Hahahah.. I had posted more than 100 comments in Winn's What is love tag post & manage to sapu the 88th, 100th, 188th, 200th, 288th & 300th comment. Oops.. creating traffic jam in her post. Hehehe.. Winn cakap she finally understand Kenny Sia's feeling cos took her so long to load her post. Sorry yeah.. And not forgetting Angel's latest post Monday's Filler with the 168th and 200th comment. Wah.. The fatt syndrome... The feeling is indescribable.. Syiok :)

Have to tag 9 weirdo-es? Who to tag ah? Throw Dice to decide (I'm not playing monopoly nor mahpoly..) The victims are none other than...
1. Misti
2. Cynthia
3. LB
4. May
5. Simple America
6. Sengkor
7. Kenny
8. Ah Ben
9. Papercrazy

Winn-ing with Winn

I met up with Winn today @ 4 pm since she balik kampung to Penang :) Of course not forgetting the handsome white prince doggy,Liucas, who is so affectionate and so adorable. Jumping up and down when he sees me. Luckily Winn didn't piak me with Liucas cos yesterday night I spammed her post (yeah.. the sweet #88, #100, #188, #200th, #288th and #300th comment). We went to Swatow Lane for late lunch early dinner. Gosh, traffic jam on the road everywhere (everyone busy doing their last minute shopping for raya tomorrow?) I was considered lucky cos I managed to get one legal parking lot nearby the makan place. The hawker stalls in Swatow Lane are packed with people too... (macamlah ikan sardin) . Finally we managed to spot one empty table after exercising our ocular (eye) muscles extensively. Phew........

Swatow Lane is one of the places in Penang whereby you can get most Penang hawker food "under one roof" - not the real roof but the imaginary roof, since these are street vendors :P

Char Koay Teow. I'm wondering how much money the CKT vendor earns per day since he was frying non stop..There are hundreds of broken egg shells seen next to his stove. Winn cakap might be the CKT is tasty cos of the additional ingredient - his sweat on the CKT :P

Tee Nya Kueh - The chewy Nyonya dessert served with palm sugar syrup/gula melaka.

The Fruity Ais Kachang (mango, chiku & banana) with lotsa atap chee (Phua Chu Kang mother's favourite ingredient) topped with one scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Penang Fruit Rojak. The rojak that we have been "dreaming" of since I chatted with Winn few nights ago :P

Finally.... After the makan session, we continue our chit chatting session - talking about the spam & havoc created on her latest post, on our doggies, this and that... In short we yakked about everything under the sun for 2 hours before we finally decided to make a move. Nope, not sending her home yet but bringing her to my cosy home to see my cute & adorable Ah Boy. Ah Boy was so happy to see Winn and started manja-ing with her. We continued our yakking session again while playing with the doggy. Somehow Ah Boy merajuk half way... kekekke... kena provoked cos of food? :P

红蜻蜓

After I posted up Good Old Times - Old Good Times - Old Times Good, we (Me, Carcar & Cynthia) had a group conversation in MSN yesterday night.

Cynthia : u guys make me cry, celaka.
Cynthia : I'm very ‘kan dong’
Carcar : don’t kan dong
Carcar: We were talking bout u for the past few days.
Chen : yes
Cynthia : Why me ah?
Carcar : Old timer frens mah
Chen : Recalling those good old days mah
Cynthia : I know… can u imagine that
Carcar : wat?
Chen : Imagine wat?
Cynthia : That’s why I wanna cry man..
Cynthia : Imagine.. such a short time.. but it looks like we know each other for years
Chen : yeah
Carcar : yes
Chen : Cynthia, carcar has a request leh..
Chen : Just now, carcar suggested to ask Winn & Cynthia to write similar post on good old times. So Cynthia… can u?
Carcar : Yes
Cynthia : I’m half way writing.. Chen kacau.
Chen : Woo
...

What Cynthia mentioned is indeed true.
Even though it's just one year, but it seems like we have known each other for ages. Carcar even dedicated a song 红蜻蜓 (Red Dragonfly) by 小虎隊 to Cynthia, Winn and me in her blog. Since I have the mp3 song, I will upload it here. (Hahha, none other than... so that we will remember about this and can listen back to the song dedication over & over again in the future :P).

These are our comments for the song in Carcar's blog.
Cynthia's comment :

Good Old Times - Old Good Times - Old Times Good

I called Carcar on her mobile phone on Thursday night for a short chat but at the end we ended up chatting in ym for one & half hours. Might be cos of Sotong Mind Thinks Alike, that's why we can have endless interesting topics when chatting, including the good old days and several other topics. She said I'm one of the pioneers in Ctinthecity woh.. Carcar even suggested a project on "Good Old Times, Old Good Times & Old Times Good". Sounds interesting, so I decided to participate and my post is finally up :)

Come to think about it, I know Carcar for one year already - through blogging. How I get to know her? One bright sunny day, on 15th October 2005, I saw from my sitemeter, the "visitors referring URL" showed her blog address. So I itchy hand and clicked on her blog and the first post I read in Ctinthecity was Cherish Our Relationship. And from there on, we finally manage to get to know each other and become friends... I still remember that lengthy post till today and not forgetting the first few pictures (including the wooden-handicapped-chair) that she posted during that period of time ;) I just told her during those early days, I mistaken her as a Singaporean cos her location profile in the past was in KiasuLand. Carcar has the ability is to turn peanut into sausage, LOL. Psssss.. Don't stand next to her cos she is so talllllll. You can either sit or squat or lie down or sleep next to her, but don't stand next to her... Carcar, when is our next sotong session? ;)

Winn is the other great person that I know of for a year too. Yeah, I started reading her blog on 13th October 2005. I can't remember how I came across her blog but I can still remember the first post that I read from Sapturn. The first post that caught my attention was Thief followed by My Pop Idols, cos of the cute doggies photo. All these posts were related to Lucas. Shhhhhh... The first time when I read her blog, I was sort of confused by her gender, hahahhaa, cos of the caption she wrote below the My Pop Idols post :
Oh my god! I knew it. I knew Lucas's gay! And so's Max. Shame on you . But I still love you Lucas. Shame on you Max, you give in so easily!! But OK lah . No big deal. I'm 40% gay myself. Testified by Gay-O-Meter. Winn, Waiting for the chit-chat & makan session with you next week. We will have ROJAK, assam laksa, chen-dol, char koay teow, hokkien mee, curry mee, oh chean & what else? (Wah.. can finish meh? ordering so much?)

Cynthia, another great buddy of mine whom I get to know of since September 2005 when she left a comment in my White Coat post. Our friendship continue from there. She said I sound "motherly" on the phone.. *pengsan* Mmmmm... *Scratch head*. Cynthia, I'm waiting to have a bowl of famous Penang Assam Laksa together with you (at the Air Itam Market next to the longkang) when you balik kampung. Cynthia loves Penang food :P

There are many other bloggers that I get to know of during the early days but many have already retired or semi-retired... Too bad my crappy KSL/契细佬 Jellyfish has retired. Remembering those crappy moments in the early days with Jellyfish, Day Dreamer, Cynthia, Winn & Carcar. During those days, these bunch of great people have already start fighting to become the first commentor (just for fun & for that syiok feeling) - The First-To-Comment Syndrome (FTCS). I can't remember who actually started the trend.. issit Jellyfish? or Carcar? or DayDreamer??? Carcar, can you recall? And not forgetting all the Perasan, Pengsan, Cabut & Piakking sessions... Hahha, I started piakking others with sotong & other seafood since 2004 ( in one of the forum that I participated earlier on) .

Luckily my memories didn't fail me. It is nice to recall back those sweet memories. Carcar, my post is up. Looking forward to reading your version of Good Old Times - Old Good Times - Old Times Good :)

在雨中

I chatted with DG a week ago..

DG : do u remember this song 在雨中?
Chen : Yes, I have the mp3.
DG : can fw to me ah?

I sent her the song via email and this is the reply she gave me "Not many ppl know about this song... 我们是不是老了?LOL!" Hahhaha.. We are indeed getting older day by day. But one thing for sure, we are no longer 十八 or 二十二 (18 nor 22 years old). This song (在雨中/In the Rain by 刘家昌/尤雅) is one of the popular songs in karaoke in the past :)

Timber Trailer Crash

On 9th October 2006 noon, on our way to Kinabalu Park, we witnessed this.... road blocks and an overturned trailer lorry carrying timbers.

Typical Malaysians will stop by to have a look at the number plate of the vehicle involved in the accident (so that they can buy 4-digit-numbers later). I'm not the typical one, cos I didn't pay any attention at all to the number plate (Buying numbers is not my cuppa tea). I presume this was a fatal accident, and even if the victims survived, they were be in critical conditions judging from the scene.

The overturned timber trailer from different angle...

This is the snapshot of what I read from the local newspaper the next morning. Three men were killed on the spot when the trailer lorry they were travelling in crashed near Kpg Kiau junction here yesterday morning........... Initial investigation showed that the driver was driving fast & lost control of the vehicle, resulting it overturning. The three men were pinned to their seats & succumbed to severe injuries.

Do drive carefully especially during this coming DeepaRaya Festive Season. Don't drive recklessly. Treasure your life and remember your loved ones at home....

Ramadhan Treat

Bought these buka puasa (break fast) foodstuff from the Ramadhan Bazaar. Tak puasa pun boleh beli makanan kat sana, kan?

Roti Jala (roti = bread, jala = net; So in conclusion, Roti Jala = Net Bread? kekeke... Don't throw rotten eggs roti jala at me, okie? Mmm... I think it's better to call it as Latticed Bread :P)

Chicken Curry (the gravy for Net Bread Roti Jala)

Pasembur, the mouth watering Indian Rojak - shredded cucumber, turnip, bean sprouts, beancurd, potatoes, hard boiled eggs, prawn fritters, sotong etc etc served together with the sweet & spicy gravy. However I prefer Penang Fruit Rojaks more than Pasembur. Winn, we go makan fruit rojak next week, okie? *wink*

I have forgotten what is the name of this kuih.. bla bla ayam.

Curry Puffs with potatoes filling.

Sarawak : Limbang

Limbang, a peaceful town in the northern region in Sarawak, is located between the two halves of Brunei. Limbang is a "passer-by" town for most travellers, who pass by Limbang either to go to Kota Kinabalu, Miri or Mulu. This is one of the towns I stopped by on the way during my short journey from Brunei to Kota Kinabalu.

Pengkalan Jabatan Laut Limbang

The Milo susu or Teh Tarik muddy Limbang River (cannot resist to relate things with food)

A thriving village with wooden houses across the Limbang River. I guess these are the residency area for the fishermen in Limbang.

Local fishing (with fishing net) at the Limbang River river bank together with his kids.

This two-storey wooden building is Limbang Museum. The building was previously an old fort built by Rajah Charles Brooke in 1897. During the Brooke’s days, half of the ground floor was used as jail while the other half for storage purposes, whilst the upper floor housed the offices of the Resident and the District Officer and their staff.

Limbang Town

We had a good laugh when we saw this traffic light... The "No Traffic Light" Signboard on the traffic light post :P

World Bread Day

Anyone knows 16th October (today) is World Bread Day? Bread is staple food for some and dietary food for others.

What should you do on World Bread Day?
1. Bake bread? (Mmmm... I guess this option is too troublesome)
2. Buy bread from the local bakeries? (This sounds better, right?)
3. Eat bread. (What's the point of buying bread if u don't consume them? But before eating, remember to take few nice shots).

Let's celebrate WORLD BREAD DAY
by EATING BREAD

Tonight I will have Gardenia Bread with Chilli Tuna. What is your favourite bread?

Brunei Again

We passed by The Jerudong Theme Park in Brunei, which was once a great place for exciting rides but the place is quite run down nowadays. You can have the whole theme park and enjoy the rides all by yourself. No hassle of queueing up for tickets. Since nothing interesting there, we continued on our sightseeing tour somewhere else.

Saw these smart looking horses not far away from the Jerudong Theme Park. So we stopped by to kay poh for a while.

Handsome white horse. (Can we relate this white horse with the 白马王子 or White Horse Prince in the Fairy Tales?) Too bad this white horse is botak (bald) :P

All the horses here have "tattoos". This horsey's name is 514. Everyone, say Hi to Mr 514.

The little White Egret/Bangau is a common sight in Brunei. Everywhere I go, I see little egrets. Seeing the egrets reminds me of the childhood song -

"Bangau O Bangau,
Kenapa engkau kurus?
Macam mana aku tak kurus?
Ikan tak mau timbul..

Ikan O Ikan,
Kenapa engkau tak timbul?
Macam mana aku nak timbul,
Rumput panjang sangat.."

I can't remember the lyrics for the whole song. Anyone knows this song?

Our next stop is one of the several beaches in Brunei. I can't remember the name of this particular beach...

Is this a Lifeguard Tower or ??

Colourful Speedboats.

The angry and fierce looking cat. Might be someone has accidentally stepped on his tail earlier on? This cat is definitely not as gentle as Liucas. So don't play-play if u dowan to get yourself into trouble .

Seeing this somehow reminds me of "something" - pink coloured flurry and fluffy thingy. What else will u relate this with? Neh.. Point finger at Pink Cotton.

Errr.. this pink coloured fluffy stuff is some sort of kacang flower.

L.O.V.E. is ... ???

Because I big mouth commenting in Red Sponge's LOVE post, with this comment "wah.. what sort of liuliu tag is this?kekkekek... next time I create one tag with the topic "S.O.U.R" pulak.. LOL". Mana tau the consequence of big mouth is.... kena tagged by Pink Cotton She beh song with the reason "MUAHAHAHAHA who ask u mulut besar (big mouth) laff at the tag being liuliu 'x' ". But since she mentioned she tagged those people whom she LAP, so okie lah.. I know she LAP me then, that's why she tagged me (perasan again) :P

What is LOVE? I gotta give 3 answers regarding this question "What is LOVE"..
Mmmmmm... *scratch head*

  1. LOVE is LOVE lah.. why so leceh one, asking this liuliu question.
  2. LOVE is... when we have that indescribable feeling - whereby we can tell those whom we love with either I LOVE U, I LUV U, I LAP U, I LAFF U (or better still I LAUGH U), I LIU U (this is the current in thing among the liuliu community), I SAYANG U etc etc etc..
  3. LOVE can be a noun or verb with the spelling L, followed by O, then V, and last but not least E. L-O-V-E.
Phew... *cold sweat* Finally habis answering the LOVE tag. Pink Cotton, don't vomit blood nor throw slipper at me, okie? I told u oledi this is a liuliu tag, that's why I give liuliu answer :P

Since this is a liuliu tag, so I will tag my liuliu gang whom I liu ;)
1) Winliuliu - the Co-founder of LIU. Read this post if u dunno what is LIU.
2) Angeliu - She once suffered from LLS aka Liuliu Syndrome ....
3) Mistiliu

**Point to remember : Must bear in mind not to BIG MOUTH again in the future

Brunei : Kampung Ayer (Water Village)

Another feature of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei is the Kampung Ayer (Water Village) - If I am not mistaken, this is one of the largest water village in the world.

Kampung Ayer or Water Village is a cluster of several Malay villages built on stilts in the water over the Brunei River - with wooden houses, shops, schools, mosques etc. 30,000 Brunei citizens live in the Water Village. Private water taxi (long wooden speed boats) provide rapid transportation mode for the villagers. I guess we can refer this Kampung Ayer as "Venice of the East".

Huge wooden house on stilts. I wonder how many people stay in this huge house. Does this belong to a big family?

While walking on the wooden boardwalks, I saw 2 fishes swimming in the river. (Points to remember.. Must look up, look down, look infront, look sideway, look at the right side and left side when walking (in summary, look everywhere.. ) Too bad I haven't master the skill of looking behind while walking :P )

House on stilts with jetty extension. There is a water taxi (long wooden speed boats) not far away from the jetty.

Modern amenities are available, including electricity, water supply, sewer systems, air conditioning, astro and satellite tv, and internet access too!

Almost every household has Astro and some have Satellite TV facilities.

Would you take this "shortcut" to visit the neighbour next door? I guess I won't. ( I scared I might accidentally trip and fall into the river, hahhaha.. kiasu kiasi spirit).

Home Sweet Home

Finally I'm back home. Arrived Penang at 12:20 am in the early morning (or late midnight?)

Since I had this so called "free time" while waiting for my connecting flight back home to Penang yesterday night, I ronda-ronda for a while in KLIA. All the photos here were taken with my Nokia N73 handphone since I lazy to take out my camera.

The Kit Kat double decker bus. This is one of the shoplots that I will passed by each time when I go to claim my check-in luggage.

Yeah, yeah.. Free WiFi is available in KLIA. I spent some time blog hopping with my Palm Tx pda in McDonald Fastfood outlet after having my late dinner at 9:30 pm.

Have to walk for quite a long distance since my flight terminal is B11.

Cannot resist but to take this shot, none other than the MAS Salted Peanuts - Someone's favourite. Oh yeah, some how it reminds me of the flying peanut scene again.. *grin*

Keropok Bayam

This is something that caught my attention - the Keropok Bayam or Spinach Crackers.

I bought one packet of Keropok Bayam (RM 3 per packet) from one of the roadside stalls in Kundasang, Sabah. The stalls are located not far away from the Kundasang War Memorial.

Now I regret. I should have bought more cos ... delicious :P

Greetings from Borneo Island

Yesterday was quite a tiring travelling day - long hours inside the LCCT waiting for the "connecting" flight. The first sms I get after I switched on my mobile phone in the LCCT was "Hoi! you go KK liaw ka?" from the cute gal :) Had my breakfast in McD - having the same meal and sitting exactly at the same seat as what I did 3 months back during my previous trip to Sarawak. Busy exchanging several sms with the pink lady gal too at the exact location. Hahaha, just like history re-write, but this time I was flying to different destination.

Finally I stepped my foot in Bandar Seri Begawan, after a longgggggggg journey. After dinner, we went for a short sight seeing tour before we balik zzZZzzz...

This is Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque, sitting on an artificial lagoon near the Brunei River in Kampong Ayer (or so called Water Village). 52 meters in height with a gold dome supported by walls of Italian marble, which also forms the mosque's columns, arches, and towers.

The structure that resembles ship in the water was at one time used for official state ceremonies.

No lantern, and I didn't look out for the moon yesterday night... Get too carried away with some other things :P But at least we had mooncakes to celebrate the liuliu Mooncake Fesitval :)

The Liuliu Mid Autumn Festival Story

This is the hilarious version of Mid Autumn Festival/Lantern Festival/Mooncake Festival story I read few years back written by Dr Liew. I'm not the author of this story but I edit the story here and there to made it more interesting (tambah garam & tambah cuka). The original post is no longer available online (deleted by the author for unknown reason). Pour yourself a glass of iced honey green tea, sit back and enjoy the story while munching on the lotus paste with kuaci and salted yolk mooncake. Hope you enjoy the setoli :)

Once upon a stupid time, on one fine stupid day, ten liuliu stupid suns came up on the stupid sky. These stupid sun were none other than the sun brothers. So the earth was scorched. Imagine 10 suns (my goodness). I think if you pee outside, you get instant grilled lap cheong or BBQ lobak. (So, watch out.. don't simply pee everywhere). The ko lian people were dying of dehydration, heat stroke, starvation (what to do? The paddy field dried up mah) and probably spontaneous combustion too. (Okay okay, I made that up).

So there was this fellow called Hou Yi (后羿), who climbed up one liuliu high mountain and shot down nine of the suns with his arrows. Wahahaha. (Lidat also can?) Some said the God became damn angry and banished Hou Yi to suffer on earth. For the suns were the God's sons. I think He should practise birth control, like wearing dom-dom, vasectomy or some other thing lah. so many anak... (shake head).

On earth, Chang Er (嫦娥) fell for Hou Yi's heroism and got married to him. Maybe he played dirty Cupid and shot her heart (I dunno). Chang Er was said to be a maid in the God's palace who got banished to earth because she broke a vase or something.

However, Hou Yi somehow got his hand on this pill of immortality. Some said he got it as a prize for his heroic act from some Ah Soh called Wang Mu Liang Liang (王母娘娘), the big God's mother. Some said he turn cruel and killed thousands of children to make that pill himself (You think leh? which version?).

And then one day, dunno how, Chang Er got her hands on that Viagra... ooops, I mean immortality pill. Maybe she couldn't stand Hou Yi's cruelty and wanted to sabo (sabo means sabotage loh) him, maybe she was curious, maybe kay poh or maybe drunk, or maybe.. whatever lah.. So she swallowed the pill. Then she became high, I mean feeling lighter and lighter, and floated to Cloud 9 the Moon, staying in the liuliu Moon Palace.

On the moon, Chang Er found a cute rabbit, the Jade Rabbit (玉兔) and forced it to make antidote for her. Thus sometimes you can see a rabbit pounding herbal medicine on the moon. But some said it's Mashimaro pumping a jammed toilet (you know Mashimaro, don't you? Neh... The slit-eyes, plump cunning Korean rabbit).

And if you stare at the Moon long enough (till u feel sleepy) during the liuliu Mooncake festival, you can probably see some not-so-clever man by the name of Wu Kang (吴刚) chopping some kind of stupid tree (桂树) there. It was said that Wu Kang wanted to become a fairy (err...aren't fairies female?) Maybe he's gay or transvestite. Anyway, he got conned by the guru. The guru bluffed him that if he manage to chop down the tree, he will become a fairy. But the damn tree will heal itself everytime Wu Kang stop and have a fag.

The tree would need 300 continuous chops to bring it down. (See? 300 continuous chop !! Don't play-play).. But this Wu Kang doesn't have this stamina. Whenever he stops, the tree heals itself. And Wu Kang is also bad in mathemathic. Never go to school mah, what to expect? Sometimes he counted wrongly too, more over the neighbouring damn rabbit's pounding sound also distracts him.

Wu Kang : *chop* "Two hundred and twenty one." *chop* "Two hundred and twenty two."

Mashimaro : *pound pound pound*

Wu Kang : *chop* "Ehr..." *scratch head* "Two hundred and... and... and..."

Then the tree heals itself.

Wu Kang : "What the...!!! Shut up, stupid rabbit!" *throw axe at Mashimaro*

Mashimaro : *throw toilet scuker at Wu Kang*

So there they go, on & on..... no ending one, till today....

~ to be continued (next year).....

Mooncake Attack

Mid Autumn Festival (中秋节/Zhong Chiu Jie) is just around the corner.. Mmmm... so many different names for the same festival.. Mooncake festival lah... Lantern Festival lah.. whatever lah.. all refering to the same festival (is this confusing? Hope not..)

Mooncake festival mana boleh tak makan mooncake? I know, i know.. mooncakes have 1000+ evil calories hidden inside their sinful bodies.. So devilish..

The liuliu mouth watering Kam Lun Tai Lotus Paste with salted yoke Mooncake. Each small mouthful bite is equivalent to how many calories? Who wanna take out calcultor to calculate?? Or just makan aje? Eat first, worried later? No no.... that is not the way :P

The pink coloured Snowskin mooncake with berry paste (the supposed blueberry and strawberry paste)... Seeing this mooncake reminds me of Pink Cotton and Misti Purple. Pink & Purple.. what to expect? Must correlate with them.

Pink + Purple = sweet + sweet = very lammmmm... = dental caries too (oops)

The Nostalgic Shredded Coconut Snack

Thanks, Papercrazy for the nice gift and the lovely homemade card. The handmade card is indeed very unique, with very lammmm wordings :) What is the occasion? Cos I "spammed" her blog at the correct time and this was my reward. *wink*

She mentioned "expect the unexpected", but I couldn't get what she mean earlier on ... :)

And much to my surprise.. Wow.. One packet of white and pink-coloured shredded coconut coated with sugar was enclosed together with the pressie & the card. This is indeed a surprise :) She posted one post on Childhood Food Reminiscence recently and one of the items she mentioned was this shredded coconut coated with sugar. That was something that I used to savour during my childhood time (primary school time). Thinking about it, I haven't eat this snack for at least 2 decades. I have totally forgotten about this snack till I read her post recently. This is indeed something nostalgic, don't you agree? ;)

Once again, thanks for the lovely gifts, Papercrazy :)
