Happy New Year 2007

Time really flies,
The clock has already strikes 12 midnight,
Today is 31st December 2006,
Very soon, in less than 24 hours time,
2006 will become History,
2007 is about to arrive soon.
What have I accomplished in 2006?
Is it a fruitful year?
It is, indeed it is...
I have get to know & meet many new friends throughout the year,
I'm happy to get to have you all as my friends.
I've ventured into a different pathway in my career,
Throughout all these while,
I've learnt & experienced new things,
When I looked back..
I really have no regrets,
I'm glad I took the move.
Although on & off I do miss the "good" old times,
But life still goes on...
What will the future be?
I'm sure Tomorrow will be A Better Day,
and 2007 will be A Better Year.

Happy New Year 2007
新年快乐

Stethoscope Snap On Rim

This is what I get on my first day in KL, The Littmann Stethoscope Snap on Rim. There are few who asked me what the heck what issit? Mmm... basically it is just a piece of expensive rubber/plastic to hold the diaphragm in place (to the chestpiece of the stethoscope). I bought it at 8:30 am on Thursday morning. Fifteen minutes after I bought the rim, I got a phone call from ayam panggang Will reminding me to buy the stuff. The next day, I get another last minute reminder from Pink Cotton via sms "Don forget to buy.. erm.. buy the.. dono wat thingy, ok?" Hahaha, cute lah her :D

A piece of rubber like this costs me RM25... I have changed the rim twice since it is "fragile".

My good old Littmann Stethoscope (still as good as new), which has accompanied me faithfully since 1994 - with the new Snap on Rim but old Diaphragm, old Chestpiece, old Binaurals and old Ear tips.

Merry Christmas

(Picture courtesy of Cross Daily cards)

Christmas is a wonderful season of the year. It is more than just a festive season, or the carol singing, or the giving or exchanging of gifts among family members, loved ones and friends etc. Christmas celebrates the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Over 2,000 years ago, a child who was the Son of God was born. Jesus is God's gift of love to us. He has come to show us the way to God and to give us eternal life. Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

Wishing Everyone A Merry & Blessed Christmas

Sot Sot Sotong

My collection of Sotong/Octopus :)

Cute boh the Sotong? These are Sarawak Sotong. I received these 3 cute little things yesterday night, flying all the way from Sarawak, the Land of Hornbills. Muacks and thanks, Pink Cotton for the adorable Christmas gift :D Hehehe.. there is a pink sotong too in the gang :D

This is Kiasuland Singapore Sotong by Carcar.

This is PJ Sotong by Maymay.

This is the supposedly fridge magnet sotong but many mistakenly thought those were edible "dim sum" :P

Sotong Greeting Cards for Sotong gals.

Collection of Sotongs from various artists - namely Ah May, Ah Ben, Ah Bie and Ah Ben's twin :D

My B&W Sotong sketches in the early days (The era prior to invention of oil pastel, colour pencil, magic pen or water colour.. ) :P

The Sotong became more lively & colourful after a kind Angel (with pink coloured hidden wings) sent me one box of colour pencils & magic pen :)

Klang Klang Ball

I didn't realise 冬至 / 过冬 / winter solstice is just around the corner till I received a SMS greetings yesterday night from my friend.

Since I still have a packet of glutinous rice flour in the kitchen, I will play around with the dough. Last year I came out with Sweet Potato Tangyuan. Mmmm... This year, I want to made something different too - the traditional round marble sized tangyuan (汤圆) seems like too plain, too ordinary... or might be too boring? And I come up with this... All the weird shapes & sizes.. Hahaha... (Psss.. I don't like to follow traditions).

This is how the cooked multi-shaped "tangyuan" looks like ;) Aren't they cute? Better don't let those poh-poh or any grandma sees this, else they will start shouting or yelling or giving long winded lectures :P

I know Winn will say this looks like fishball.. Or.. LB might say this looks like klang klang balls?

Happy Winter Solstice

Klang Klang BKT

Still pening with the ongoing **KLANG**KLANG**, thanks to KLANG KLANG LB. Winnie also 唔拾输, started klang klang-ing with her little klang klang drum. 我都咪拾输, now is my turn to Klang Klang with Klang Klang BKT :D

After the eventful Crappy Meet on Friday night, I finally reached Legend Hotel at 2 am in the early morning. After a quick refreshing late night (or early morning?) shower, I packed my luggage. Didn't really slept much that night (might be an hour or two only..) and I woke up again at 6 am the next morning, for Bakuteh in Klang-Klang Klang.

AhBoy came & fetch me at 7:20 am. (Psss.. This AhBoy is not my dog, okie? He is a friend of mine who shares the same nickname as my doggy. Both of them have one thing in common, the big round eyes !!) We went to Subang USJ to pick up Chiew before heading towards Klang to meet the not so anonymously anonymous Will. We spent almost 30 minutes at the second toll in Federal Highway waiting for that bugger ayam panggang Will to arrive. Guess he must be busy pang leng leng before he left his house, that's why he took so long :P

The Klang-klang boy brought us to one of the BKT place that he used to frequent - namely Li Yuen Restaurant. There are few hundreds BKT stalls/restaurant in Klang.. Really kia si lang.

The BKT side dishes : Kee Yia Kueh & Yew Char Kueh - both ready to be tortured inside the so called Bakuteh Jacuzzi.

The sinful hak sei yan Fei Chu Yoke Bakuteh. Really kia si lang looking at the skin & the thick layer of fat hidden underneath.

This is my serving. Equally sinful :) Look at the layers of fat!!!!! I didn't really savour the fei chu yoke. I ate mainly the lean meat. Wah, if eat like this everyday really can die one :P The BKT soup is indeed yummy !! Thanks AhBoy for the BKT treat. We waited & waited for hours for Sbanboy but he never turned up.. He FFK us :(

谁是最好的?

Inspired by Winn's latest post regarding 你是最好的, 你知道吗? , I came up with my own version of "你是最好的, 你知道吗?" ...

* 是最好的,你知道吗? (DYK you are the best?)
This is called TOUCHING. Hou lammm ah..

* 是最好的,你知道吗 ?(DYK I'm the best?)
This is called PERASAN. *Ahem* It is good to be perasan at times :)

* 不是最好的,你知道吗? (DYK you are not the best?)
This is called.. TELLING THE TRUTH. You know I know...

* 不是最好的,你知道吗? (DYK I'm not the best?)
This is called HUMBLE.

* 你是最不好的,你知道吗? (DYK you are the worst?)
This is called INSULTING/HUMILIATING. Nak cari gaduh keh?

* 我是最不好的,你知道吗? (DYK I'm the worst?)
This is called LOW SELF ESTEEM. So kesian & so cham geh?

* 我们是最好的,你知道吗? (DYK we are the best?)
This is called CHEATING. Hahhaha...

Really NBTD (= Nothing Better To Do) :P

Another Crab Night

I had Seafood Dinner with my "old" friends on my first day night in KL. Mana kita orang pergi? That Jellyfish drove us (Sbanboy, Agus & Me) around inside his kereta buatan Malaysia with limited petrol reserve.. The petrol indicator constantly showed "E" (which means Enough & "F" means Finish woh..) No wonder lah itu Jellyfish mati-mati dowan to fill up petrol yet, despite being pestered by us... Mmmmm.....

We met up with Will (that night, he is not anonymous at all) & Alicia before heading towards Dataran Prima for seafood dinner at Wong Poh Restaurant, recommended by Alicia.

This is Sbanboy, my ex-coursemate. Busy shooting kacang with his dSLR, Canon 350D . Look at all the camera lenses on the table. Really kia si lang. I played around with his cool gadget. Thinking whether to buy one or not, but then.. I'm lazy to carry so many "tools" around...

The perasan & crappy Jellyfish (my KSL) with his dSLR too.. another Canon lover. The flash is really killing.. So big geh..

The not so anonymous Will (whom is not anonymous at all that night), playing with Sbanboy's dSLR. Wah.. look at his fingers. Really macam perempuan punya tangan. Should be.. Nice to touch then.. :P

The frustrated & hungry Agus waiting patiently for all those buggers photo maniacs taking photos of the food... He too has a compact digital camera too but too shy to bring out? He only brought out his gadget towards the end.. DYK Agus' sister is my ex-colleague? What a small world, huh?

And not forgetting Alicia (she dowan her photo to be posted up here woh) busy snapping photo with her Nokia N91. I still giggle over her candid shots of Jellyfish, the Orang Utan & the distorted big head image of Agus. Alicia has a brown min pin, same breed as Ah Boy and hers is called Notti Boi.

Our menu for the night : The sinful stewed 3-layered Pork with Yam, Stir Fried Kai Lan, Claypot Mixed Vegetable, Deep Fried Sotong, Salted Egg Crabs and Butter Crabs with buns.

That Jellyfish as usual, savour crabs with fork & spoon.. Isn't he weird? Crabs are only nice when eat with fingers lah....

The aftermath.. Err... Siapa ni yang makan banyak sangat ketam???? Issit that the one who eats the most crabs will crap the most?? Hahaha... Time will tell :)

Crap Night & Crappy Meet

*long-winded cheong hei post*

Meet up with a bunch of crappy nice people last Thursday.. at King Crabs Restaurant in Kelana Jaya. Will was the first one to arrive and he walked around aimlessly outside the restaurant while waiting for the others. We found out Angel reserved a table "using" the name Anges (hehehe.. your name so special mah, till the waitress salah tulis.. luckily she didn't write down as Anger pulak, else I no eye see liao). Itu malam hujan anjing & kucing.. creating chaos & heavy traffic jam. We waited and waited and waited and finally the event organiser, Angel arrived. She said she wanna bring a mic to interview Will wan, but mana tau tak bawa pulak..

Soon, Nyonya Pg joined in the mini crowd. Nyonya, u are too famous liao.. Everyone get the correct guess who you are :P Nyonya Pg is the most happening nyonya in town, till the Celcom ppl called her and asked whether she is Nyonya Penang !! Still giggle over her Celcom story. If anyone has any complaint, you are mostly welcomed to post up the complaints in her blog. She really can talk.. and can yak non stop wan. Trying to recall how many hours she cakap that night. Counting with fingers.. from 9 pm till 1 am :P

We were busy talking and drinking chinese tea (dunno how many glass of chinese tea I drank that night..) and eating kacang. Sengkor arrived next followed by Ah Butt. Sengkor, the Crap King in Crabs King.. How crappy. This Crap King no good wan.. Ask for free MC only. Ini dunia tarak Free MC lah. LOL. This Sengjai bought a new camera - The Nikon Coolpix S9.. fully equipped for his coming convo the next day?? Ah Butt looks so young, like a secondary school gal. Didn't manage to talk much with her leh.. Blame it on the big round table, separating us so far apart !!!!!! Angel told us she sent out a last minute invitation to Jason, and here he comes..

The "lost" and blur looking curly hair straight hair Ah Nel arrived subsequently... This "52-year-old" Ah Nel still cannot kick off his lying habits.. This time he intro himself as Pink Cotton pulak. Mmmmm.... since when Pink Cotton becomes a tatto0-ed young lengchai? The Pink Cotton that I met few months back looks different leh..LOL. Winn punya pasal making Nyonya had the impression that Ah Nel has pao char curly hairs and she couldn't associate Ah Nel with the real Ah Nel... So confusing. Then hoh he was caught red handed again.. lying again about the LRT station.. Muahahaha... Poor Ah Nel. Explained wrongly being accused as lying pulak :P

Must piak this Will. Dunno why he intro himself as Anonymous pulak. Luckily I know him for long time liao, else I might kena cheated by him too.. Why Anonymous ah? Your name cannot see light wan meh? Borrow too much Ah Long's $ ah? :P

It started getting warm when the waitress took our order. This place very happening wan, like circus. First lah, the waiter splashed drinking water on the floor. Then.. the waitress drop the plate or glass on the floor - pili palang. The most hilarious wan is someone bumped or knocked himself into the glass door.

Menu of the night : Stirred fry Lotus Roots, Macademia Nuts & Asparagus; Guinness Stout Pork Ribs, Mayannaise Salad Tofu, Frogs aka "Farm Chicken", Marmite Crabs, Butter Crabs with Buns and Nestum Prawns.

Ah May arrived last. We all sibuk makan liao by the time she arrived :P This lenglui ate, licked and sucked the crabs till she cut her thumb *ouch*, with minimal amount of blood oozing out.. Mana tau later she licked & sucked her own blood pulak.. *faint* Yummy ah the blood? :P She too tired liao, or too sleepy kua?

There was a group of drunken Japanese sitting next to us and conserving in increasing volume. Kili kulu dunno apa dia orang cakap... Like fish market oni. However, we chit chat still manage to pay full attention to Nyonya, listening to her stories till being chased out 11 pm (dowan to leave also gotta leave, cos tutup kedai liao). The night was still young. Oh ya, Thanks to Jason for the choc & the candy :)

We continue our yakking session in KTZ in SS2. On the way to KTZ, I called Winn. She didn't join us earlier on for dinner (cos she melayang-layang somewhere else). Angel managed to persuade Winn to join us... Yippee !! And not forgetting... Winn can BARK !! Angel was fooled by her, she thought that was Liucas' barking instead !! Muaahahahha. And thanks for the Sheep Pooh Mini Plush :) So cute geh...

We ordered our Loh-Loh (Mango Loh is the favourite Loh of the night, with 5 clever people eating that.. 2 had mixed Loh and Winn has angtao/Redbean Loh). Will wanted to be different from others, so he ordered something else (black sesame paste or ??? Lupa liao).

Mango Loh vs Red Bean Loh

Psss.. Ah Nel kena molested kaw kaw yesterday night by someone when we wanna shoot her picture.. Summore with so many pairs of eyes watching... Almost to the extend of tearing off singlet exposing the glaring tattooes... *Drop jaw*

And not forgetting all the...
*Spooning lah...
*Playing with ants lah...
*Dissecting ants lah...
*Playing with food lah...
*Craps lah...
*Kay-poh lah..
*Listening to Story lah...
*Melayang-layang again lah...
* Cheong Hei lah...

Wah... Time really flies.. Without realising, it's 1 am liao.. Time to bid farewell and thanks to Cikgu Nyonya for the treat.. Nyonya is our teacher for the day.. Before we dismissed, the whole class stood up politely (like little primary school kids lidat) and uttered out aloud "Thank You Miss Tan". Nice meeting everyone.

Pssss.. Carcar, I delivered your request (A Hug & A Kiss) to Angel liao :)

Interesting Facts

I get to know some interesting facts from my pharmacist colleague few days back, regarding how drugs or medicine were dispensed in the early days (in the early 70's) when she just started her career as pharmacist in hospital. During those days, empty containers or bottles for cream/ointment or solutions/syrup/liquid prescription were not available or supplied by the pharmacy in hospital. Patients had to bring their own containers.

1. Cream and Ointment will be placed on banana leaves and wrapped up or folded prior to dispensed to patients.

2. For solutions/liquid/syrups (eg cough syrups), patients had to buy empty bottle containers from the nearby shop (eg. those empty coca cola or F&N bottles) and placed the empty bottles at the dispensary counter for the pharmacist to pour in the solution/liquid/syrup.

3. The most interesting one is regarding eye drops. I can't imagine and can't believe this actually happened in the past. The solution for eye drops was poured inside the empty bottles bought from the nearby shop (and sometimes those patients will buy big bottle for just few mls of eye drops as small bottles were not available). Flexible plastic dropper bottles are not available in the past. And here comes the most interesting part - regarding how the eye drops are instilled or applied to the eyes ...

What the patients used to instill or to apply the eye drops? (Forget about the eye drop droppers which were not available during those days).
Wanna make a wild guess ?

Straws !! Those drinking straws !!!!!
Patients used those drinking straws to draw the eye drops from the bottle and to instill the eye drop to their eyes !!
I really get a shock. Can u imagine that ? Forget about sterility and hygiene.... I wonder what was the rate of infection during those days..

These are some of the PRICELESS info I gathered from my colleague.
Consider ourselves blessed with the advancement in medical practice and health care. And never take things for granted :)

Penang Ferry

Normally I prefer to avoid using the ferry but to use the Penang Bridge coz of the possibilities of the long queue to catch the ferry. I can't remember when is the last time I use the ferry service to go across the island. Mmmm.. might be 4 or 5 years back ??

Penang Ferry Service is one of the oldest ferry service in Malaysia, connecting the Sultan Abdul Halim ferry terminal in Butterworth (mainland) to Raja Tun Uda ferry terminal at Weld Quay in George Town (Penang Island).

Mmmm... and I have never taken any photos from the ferry in the past.... Since I'm on the ferry, I won't let go the chance to snap-snap. It is interesting to view Penang island from a different point of view.

Passengers coming out from the car to enjoy cool sea breeze. Some prefer to stay and sit inside the cars, but not me :)

KOMTAR - the landmark of Penang Island and the old ferry from afar.

Our "beloved" Penang Bridge..

Looking at the Penang Bridge reminds me of the incident which occured an hour earlier on.

Looking for... jellyfish? Nope, I'm just looking at the water... looking at the waves.. looking at the reflection... Saja-saja :)

The ferry ride gotta end soon....

Colourful ferry heading towards Sultan Abdul Halim ferry terminal in Butterworth...

Another blue ferry leaving Penang Island..

Time to balik kampung. This is an interesting ferry ride (Sounds like I'm a tourist, hahaha)

Spam

One fine sunny late evening, I had NBTD, thus had a group conversation with these great bunch of people via YM Conference, namely Jellyfish (my dear crappy KSL/契细佬), Will and Alicia (She has one brown hensem Min Pin by the name Notti Boi). Part of our conversation is regarding Spam..

*snip*
Jellyfish : Spam....
Will : Spam is tasty, Spam is yummy, Spam goes well with egg and bread, hahaha
Chen : Wah.. Spam is food ah?
Alicia : yaya
Will: yea
Alicia : a brand of canned food :D
Will : Spam = luncheon meat brand in US, very famous
Will : http://www.spam.com
Jellyfish : SPAM = Situ Paling Ala Malau
Chen : faint
Will : but i think taste wise SPAM cannot beat our China Ma Ling brand
Chen : Hehehe, we grow up with Ma Ling :D
Jellyfish : ma ling su i like
Will : SPAM = Sendiri Pergi Ambik Makanan, akakaka
Chen : wah... so clever.. i like i like
Alicia : nei Chen.. we shud go Klang and rob food from him :D
Will : SPAM = Siapa Pengsan Akan Mati
Jellyfish : SPAM = Susu Paling Ada Mutu :D
Chen : faint faint
Will : SPAM = Sila Potong Akar Mati
*snip*

Great lah this group of people, can come up with all sort of funny idea within split of seconds. The one I like the most is SPAM = Sendiri Pergi Ambil Makanan... And *ahem* I never know SPAM is the famous brand of canned luncheon meat etc in US. So Suaku... All I know spam is spam... Like what some of our great spammers used to do :P

*Update*
Ini saya suka : SPAM = SOTONG PIAKS ARE MARVELOUS (LB punya idea)

One after Another..

Lately I have seen one elderly patient (in her mid 70's) being diagnosed to have 3 different cancer/carcinoma at different stages of her life. Earlier on, she was diagnosed to have Cervical Carcinoma (cancer of cervix) and was treated with radiotherapy. Few years later she has another different cancer - Carcinoma of the right breast (breast cancer); Mastectomy with axillary clearance was performed followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Then she gets another different cancer years later - Colorectal Carcinoma (cancer of the colon); Anterior Resection was performed. Now she comes back with suspected recurrence. What a mishap. This "poor" lady is so unlucky. Being diagnosed with one cancer is already depressing and heart breaking for many. More over she gets one cancer after another. I have seen many suffering from two different cancer but this is the first time I see one with 3 different cancer. Mmmm... Is she suffering from Familial Cancer Syndrome? However, this lady has positive thinking with very strong will. She still looks fit and energetic and looks much younger than her real age.

Sotong Sister is in Town

Met up with my dear sotong sister, lenglui Maymay last Saturday. After driving merry-go-round (luckily just for a short while) in Seberang Jaya, I managed to find my way to her hotel in SJ. Hehehe, I'm hopeless with the roads outside Penang island. I kidnapped her to Penang island after going through a don't-know-how-long traffic jam on the Penang bridge.

Thanks a million, Ah May, for the nice pinkie Octopus. So cute, so chu-bee. Big round eyes. Adding another sotong to my expanding sotong collection. (Yeah !!!)

Ah Boy gets his pressie too (How nice). A equivalent chu bee beanie bone.. Ah Boy manja-ed and played with Maymay for quite some time.. But suddenly he misbehaved and ended up being punished. Today I pinjam-ed his bone to play for a while. Shhhh.. Don't tell him ;)

Mmmm... What's going on here??? Scratching? Tickling? Indecent Exposure?? The thing that caught my attention is the prominent bulging blood vessels on the hands. Hahaha, Can easily push in the 14 gauge (14G) big bore branula. How nice if all the patients have such prominent nice veins... Ooops... sorrylah.. Somehow I like to observe people's hand for veins. Hard to kick off this bad habit.

We went to Air Itam for Assam Laksa in the late evening but too bad, the stall was closed prematurely. Dunno why the stall closed so early that day. I felt guilty.... Should have left the house earlier instead :( I gotta tapao assam laksa for her liao if I go to KL in the future...

We went to the Hawker Centre in New Lane, off Macalister Road. This hawker centre is located next to the Sunway Hotel. The place was congested as the old chinese saying - People Mountain People Sea (人山人海). We sat next to the blue wall with free entertainment - endless Christmas songs from the CD shop next door. Thank God it didn't rain yesterday night. It was a warm night though with occasionally refreshing breeze.

Satay Babi or Pork Sate. *Non Halal* Not suitable for Liucas (Dunno why but Angel cakap punya), but definitely suitable for Ah Boy. Suitable and I cakap only, cos I didn't tapao back for him :P

Chee Cheong Fun with thick prawn paste & chilli paste. This stall sells one of the best Chee Cheong Fun in Penang.

Curry Chee Cheong Fun with tauhu pok, coagulated blood, cockles, bean sprout and bla bla bla. The modified version of Curry Mee.

Sinful Oh Chean or Fried Oyster Omelette. If eating this frequently, guarantee will get heart attack or ischaemic heart disease with blocked coronary blood vessels - be it single vessel disease or double vessel disease or triple vessel disease :P

Equally sinful Char Koay Kak. Another high calories dish... ladened with oil :P

The not so sinful Chendol.

The less sinful Ais Kachang with fruits and ice cream.

Wanted to order Fruit Rojak earlier on but at the end our stomach failed us.. We drove around the town to see-see look-look in the dark. Part of the town is congested with nearly static traffic jam (along the Upper Penang Street) coz of the Digi Street Blast. Finally we called it a day night after May managed to find a room.

I woke up around 6:30 am the next morning. Mmmm... Even though I only slept for 3 and half hours but surprisingly I didn't feel sleepy. Might be coz I didn't have to go to work today? Somehow we feel more energetic when we are not working. I managed to catch a glimpse of the sunrise before heading for breakfast later in the morning.

We had not-so-sinful dimsum (har kau, siew mai, lormaikai etc) at Leong Kee Tea Garden.

Time really flies. After dimsum, it's soon time to bid farewell.. Mmmm... Traffic jam in the early Sunday morning in Penang Bridge. As expected, an accident took place earlier on causing the massive traffic jam. After crawling like a turtle advancing my car inches by inches for almost 20 minutes, we drove past the accident venue. We kay poh and took a glimpse at the car number plate. If my memory didn't fail me, the number was 1859? Anyway, since both of us don't buy numbers, so just let it be..... Finally I managed to send May back safe & sound across the Penang Bridge without sesat. Nice meeting you, May :)
