Taiping Zoo (13) : Elephant

One of the animals that I love to spend time looking at inside the zoo are the elephants... Notice the little baby elephant and the toddler elephant?

What caught my attention is the pair of the lovely mother elephant & baby elephant..

Mother & baby elephant standing side by side.. Eating grass?

The baby elephant was thirsty.. He bent down & sucked the water from the pool with his little baby trunk.

The baby elephant blowed the water sucked with his trunk into the mouth ( Well, well... elephant's trunk is not a drinking straw. The elephant will fill the trunk with water and then use it as a hose to pour the water into the mouth).

Mummy Elephant playing with baby elephant.. teasing the baby elephant with her trunk.

Baby elephant manja back with his mother.. touching the mother elephant with his baby trunk.

Loving and affectionate elephants..

Mmmmm... on closer view... Aiyak, the baby elephant even though still young, has so much wrinkles liao :P Kulit berkedut-kedut... Definitely need to apply lotsa lotsa body lotion, hahhaa.... Anyone want to sponsor body lotion for this cute little baby elephant? ;)

Taiping Zoo (11) : African Savanna

I almost forgotten to continue my Taiping Zoo series.... It's time to continue on with the local Animal Planet Series (which is Free Of Charge) :P

Giraffe. This is the only giraffe left in the zoo at the moment. When I looked back at the photos taken 2 years ago, there were 3 giraffes. (The flamingo mengacau only.. obstructing the view.. Must piak with sotong).

I guess the giraffe can sustain neck fracture easily since they have long necks :P At first I thought giraffes will have more cervical vertebraes then human beings since their necks are so long, but I was wrong. Giraffes have exactly the same number of cervical vertebraes as human. It is just that their cerival vertebraes are extremely elongated.

Long-horned ankole cattle. I love to look at the horns, which is one of the largest and most dramatic horns. There is only one ankole cattle left at the moment. I remember there were four previously..

Zebra, which reminds me of zebra crossing :)

The three musketeers :)

Taiping Zoo (10) : Ostrich

Who is the Star of the Day for today? Presenting Miss Ostrich... What's so special about ostrich? Well, well.. besides long neck & long leg, they are the one of the biggest bird & flightless bird.. So sad huh? They are bird, and yet they cannot fly. But God is fair, since they cannot fly, they have the ability to speed... imaging the big bird running at the speed of about 65 km/hr or 40 miles/hr (I'm really amazed !! Don't you? )

There is this famous saying that the ostrich will hide its head in the sand at the first sign of danger... True or not? I have no idea :D

The unsightly ostrich from afar... Everytime I talk about ostrich, I can't resist thinking about their huge gigantic egg. Imagine an egg that weighs more than 1 kg :)

I like to take upclose shots of animals from different angles. Mmmm... look at the big round eyes...

Innocent looking big round eyes... Cute or not? Comel leh... 很可爱, 对不对? (This is the Malaysian spirit, using the "3 in 1" language)

All animals with big round eyes are cute, right? ;) (Imagine Puss In Boot in Shrek 2 - the cute cat with pathetic looking big round eyes)

Yeah, yeah.. I have eaten ostrich meat before - the Ostrich Sate from Haji Samuri Sate Kajang & another time from the stirred fry ostrich meat from the famous Top Spot Foodcourt at Taman Kereta in Kuching :)

Taiping Zoo (9) : Spoonbill

These are spoonbills. What attracts me is the long bill/beak with a flattened tip which looks like a flattened spoon. Wonder if I can use the long bill as a spoon to scoop food or not? (but before I can do that, I need to detach the bill from the spoonbill first :P .. sounds very cruel, so better don't..)

The hungry bird searching for food... Don't you think they look clumsy with that long, spoon-like bills or beaks? Looks kinda "out of proportion", right?

Besides the long beaks/bills, these spoonbills have long legs too (in comparison with other birds), but definitely not as long as the cutie flamingoes..

Just a side topic...
Half way writing this post, I remembered someone who is supposed to sound like ducky (he self proclaimed that). Why ah? cos the spoonbill looks like mutated duck .. Hahaha, you know who you are, right? After a surprised phone call yesterday, the conclusion is... you definitely doesn't sounds like a duck (hahaha... Ben, please don't drool till tsunami after reading this, okie? ;) ) And all the best in exam....

Taiping Zoo (8) : Malayan Porcupine

Porcupine still in his dreamland..... sunbathing while zzzzzz (2 in 1)...

Porcupines attempting to escape? That's why they dig such a big hole on the wall?? Take note of the injured porcupine with the exposed flesh & missing quills ... (Lost in fight, I presume..) Don't worry, the quills will grow back later on.. so the porcupine won't remain botak or bald forever :P

Too frequent, we heard stories that porcupine shoot their enemies with their quills. But the truth is that ... when necessary, the porcupine will quickly turn his/her back with the quills facing the intruders. The quills might dislodge from the porcupine, leaving them behind in the intruder's skin. That's how the porcupine dislodge the quills, not by shooting :D

This is how their "Home Sweet Home" looks like from afar :) Hahhaa, I hope no one will associate these cute porcupines with porcupine meat or dishes. Oops... suddenly Porcupine Balls pop into my mind..

Taiping Zoo (7) : Green Iguana

The gorgeous Green Iguana.... Anyone interested to keep this as pet? Definitely not me...I still prefer keeping mammals as pets compared to reptiles. I can't imagine myself keeping the green iguana as pet. And I can't imagine putting the giant lizard on my shoulders or playing with the green coloured thingy either.. Yucks :P

The swimming iguana... swimming towards my direction.. Looking with great interest at me (to be exact, he was staring at me), seeing what on earth was I doing (cos I was holding the camera taking his photo) ...

After finding out that I was just a friendly visitor who did no harm to him, the green iguana dived into the pond and swam away.. Swimming in style.. Ada Gaya Ada Sensasi.. Looks like a "huge frog" from afar :P

Taiping Zoo (6) : Flamingo

Time to continue on with the "Animal Planet" series :)

What are these funny looking creatures? None other than our dear flamingoes...

Wah... Flamingo not only has long legs but long neck also :P The neck has the same length as the legs.. Somehow, long-necked creature or animals looks pretty "unstable" to me... Hahaha... cos I'm afraid they might fracture their necks easily ;)

Cool.. Can bend & flex the neck easily.. Very flexible.

S shaped neck.. Their oddly-shaped beaks are specially adapted to separate mud from the food they consume, and are uniquely used upside-down.

This is even cuter... see how they sleep. Folding their necks & flexing the legs. The position & posture they adopted made them looked like "mirror image". This is one of my favourite photo :)

Taiping Zoo (5) : Bawean Deer

These are Bawean Deer, (Haha, Bawean sounds like bawang (= onion) to me). These Bawean Deer are only found in Bawean Island, Indonesia. According to the summary on the board, there are only 400 to 500 Bawean deers left on the island. (I guess this is another endangered species, since so little left...)

These two female Bawean deers really know how to pose for the photo shooting session :) They were looking at another direction earlier on but when I want to take their photos, they look into my direction. Or... might be they are thinking in their innocent little deer hearts - "Who is this? Invading our privacy??" Hahaha

The male bawean deer with his small little cute and adorable antlers. Kecik molek & comel montel.

Don't you think this bawean looks special? Look at his antlers, different from the others... His antlers look like horn to me :) Haha, might be he has mixed blood?? Who knows? :P

Cooling themselves inside the pool of water.

Have a look at this naughty little fawn, wanting to disturb his uncle.. See? He is heading his head (& antlers) toward his uncle's neck.

Mmm... I guess this little fawn feel itchy and wanted to scratch his antlers. But he couldn't do it by himself.. so he scratch himself on his uncle's coat instead? "Gatalnya tanduk saya, biar saya garu-garu sikit kat badan pakcik saya... Maafkan saya pakcik. Mmm..syioknya lepas saya garu.." Sounds logic, right? His uncle quickly run away...

The two loving little fawns, hugging each other. This is how little deers or fawns hug? They manja and sayang each other ;)

Err... what is this? what are they doing? Trying to create a mirror image of themselves? or are they wrestling? Head & Neck wrestling, I presume....

Taiping Zoo (4) : Sun Bear/Honey Bear

Next on the list is the Sun Bear or Honey Bear (not Horny Bear). I guess they enjoy sunlight & they like to eat honey, hence the name Sun Bear or Honey Bear ?

Sleeping beauty in action.. Still snoring loudly despite the bright sun light. Zzzzzzzz......

The little cub trying to wake up his mummy. "Mummy, you are drooling saliva. Mummy, please wake up.. We have visitors here, looking at you.. Shy lah mummy.. please wake up, pleaseeeeeeeeeeee........"

The lazy mummy didn't want to wake up. Instead, she changed another sleeping posture.. I guess she was grumbling inside her heart "Grrrrr....Naughty kid, go away, don't disturb me!" I guess mummy bear was dreaming about savouring the delicious honey.

Or is it.... The poor bear didn't have enough sleep yesterday night cos the naughty kids from Night Safari disturbed her?" Anything is possible :P

She changed her posture again !! This Sun Bear is really lazy...

Finally she opened her eyes.. but just for a short duration :P

Sunny is the name of the baby cub, the little Sun Bear - sponsored by Sunquick. Sun bear & Sunquick :) Written down there "Anytime is a Sunquick time". Hahha, do they actually feed the sun bear with sunquick orange juice ??

Taiping Zoo (3) : Lion

Since there was Pumba in the previous post, how can we miss out Simba, the Lion King?

Who is this fella? None other than "the King of the animals" - the Lion, the smart looking fellow. His mane is well groomed. I guess he washes his fur daily with "Panthene" shampoo? Or is there any special shampoo for lion??

This is where the smart fella sit... on his throne, on top of the other lions.. (Remember? He is the King) There are two other female lions sleeping at the bottom . These female lions really know how to enjoy life. Still sleeping despite the sun is hanging up high in the sky..

Since we are talking about her, the lazy lion finally opened her eyes to have a look who is gossiping & talking bad things about her :P

Another smart looking lion lying further away from the other 3 lions. I heard rumours this lion uses Sunsilk shampoo :P

Aiyak.. Sleepy head.. Still opening mouth big-big and yawning although it's 9:30 in the morning already. "My dear lion, time to wake up.. or mind to tell us what you did yesterday night till u feel so sleepy this morning?"
