The Cat Museum

Despite being a Sarawakian, I only visited The Meow Meow Cat Museum once. And that historical event occured during the CNY period in February 2007. Since Winn and Sengjai just posted on Cat Museum. Being copy-cat (Meowww...), I wanna post about Cat Museum too, using the photos I took 9 months back.

These two Guard Cats (standing next to the entrance) are given the important task to welcome every visitors to Cat Museum with a friendly Meowwwww.... Since it was CNY, the guard cats are "forced" to dress up with red coloured costumes.

Nearby, there are two other big cats guarding the Guest Book. Abuthen, the notti Angel, Winn, Sengkor and Nyonya managed to leave few sampat comments when the cats have emergency nature calls to the loo. Cats also need to pee wan mah, u think what?

A nice place to take The Meow Meow Group Photo inside the Cat Museum. And the group photo taken here are guaranteed not headless unlike the group photo of the sampat gang taken inside The Friendship Park together with The Admiral Cheng Ho :P

The Love Birds Love Cats, which reminds me of... you know who :P I wonder if that sampat Winn and Sengjai posed together with The Love Cats for Kodak moment anot? These two cats are cuter than the fatt hao cats in Friendship Park.

Jewish Cemetery, Penang

I visited the Jewish Cemetery few weeks ago. Perhaps the Jewish Cemetery in Penang is the only known Jewish Cemetery in Malaysia. Strong cast iron gates marked with the words "Jewish Cemetery" guard one's entrance to the cemetery. The gates are closed but will be opened upon request.

The magnificient tall building in the background is none other than KOMTAR.

The Jewish Cemetery is very well taken care off by the caretakers. There are tombs of different interesting shapes and sizes. The tombs have been shaped to resemble ossuaries.

At first glance, these tombs look like cows (I mean the wet cement patches on the tomb).

One of the older tomb, dated back to 7 March 1876.

The photo shooting session ended prematurely cos of the sudden heavy downpour. AFAIK, the earliest grave dated back to 1835, but too bad I didn't manage to take a snapshot of that grave cos of the heavy rain.

Mayau (Kucing/Cat)

One can see several cat statues in Kuching. As we all know, Kucing = Cat in Malay Language, and mayau = kucing/cat in Iban language. ( I understand little bit of Iban language, little bit only. Must ask Hornbill to teach me. Planned to meet up with the hornbill during my previous visit to Kuching, but, too bad I can't made it :( )

Welcome to Kuching, the "Cat City"

The first confrontation with the cat statue (for most people) was the huge and majestic white cat. This cat stood right in the centre in front of one of the huge roundabouts in Kuching, next to the beautiful Chinese gate of the city. That was a favourite spot for picture shooting for tourists/visitors to Kuching. Hey, I took one snapshot in front of the huge cat long long time ago, together with a friend of mine, in 1991 (went there for prize ceremony) whereby the cat statue was just newly built... It's just a simple statue at that time.. Yeah, the cat statue was there for more than a decade already.

I took these shots from my sister's car. (I was not driving btw and I took these snapshots while my sister made a turn on the huge roundabout next to the huge gigantic cat statue. U can see the side mirror of the car on the second picture).

There are several other cat statues available. One of them are located nearby the Crowne Plaza Riverside Hotel, just opposite the traffic light. Hahha, can see the McD signboard on the building behind the cat statue.

So, in conclusion, u can find cat statue everywhere in Kuching?? (No lah, this is not true :P But u can indeed find lotsa cat statues in Kuching, but not everywhere...)

This photo is taken in a tea kiosk not far away from the famous Sarawak Museum. (I will post on Sarawak Museum later on). It's sweet the see the kittens hugging each other while sleeping :) Didn't see many "live" cats wandering around in Kuching though :P (Well, Kuching is a very CLEAN city.. )

And not forgetting the One and Only famous Cat Museum, which is located in the North City Hall in Kuching. Even Garfield and Felix the Cat is featured in this unique museum as well :) I didn't go inside this museum, so no picture. Might be I will do so during my next trip back home.
