Persimmon Farm

I have never been to Persimmon Farm before, although I saw the persimmon tree once during my previous visit to China. All the while, I thought Persimmon Farm is not available in Malaysia. I was really surprised to find out that there's actually Persimmon Farm in Cameron Highland. I only get to know about it when I saw the sign board on our way to the Boh Tea Plantation in Habu. We visited the farm on our way back from the tea plantation... There's few fierce dog guarding the farm but they are tied up :) They barked fiercely when we entered the farm.

We talked to the owner as well, and learnt something about persimmon(柿子). Apparently, the persimmons can't be eaten straightaway when plucked from the tree. After harvesting the persimmons, the fruits need to be "treated" first with carbon dioxide or CO2 for astringency removal. The processed fruits can only be consumed something like 4 days later on..

Dak-ind,
Persimmon is a fruit with yellow/orange/red exterior/skin & orange coloured flesh. It is usually eaten fresh(soft or firm)but available in dried form as well. The flesh is Very sweet & soft when ripe.

Darryl: You like soft or hard crunchy persimons?

Chen said...

Darryl,
I prefer the partially ripe persimmons, whereby it's crunchy & sweet at the same time :) The ripe persimmons definitely are much sweeter but the flesh is very soft.

Darryl: I hope you don't mind me adding you link to my blog. It makes it easier for me to read your blog without having to go to Cynthia's blog first.

BabeKL,
the price varies with seasons, right?
When there are abundant in the market, can even get one persimmon for 50 cents...
The normal price is something between RM 1.50 to RM 2, right?

Rabbit,
Partially ripe one is nice to eat :)
