Lunch @ Swatow Lane, Penang

There are countless hawker centers and hawker stalls everywhere in Penang. One can forget about dieting or watching the calories when you are in Penang :) We went to Swatow Lane for lunch after the church service. There are several hawker stalls located along both sides of the road in Swatow Lane.

The Fruity Ais Kacang with papaya, mango and banana slices. The choices or selection of fruit is up to individuals. Not many places in Penang serve ice kacang with fresh fruits. Very refreshing especially on hot weather days.

Fruit Rojak with cuttlefish. One of my favourites.

Tee Nya Kueh - a Nyonya dessert (chewy kueh served with gula melaka @ palm sugar syrup).

Oh Chean @ Fried Oysters Omelette (mixture of cornstarch, eggs & oyster) with crispy edges.

Char Koay Teow. This one so-so only.

ben,
Yeah, the Sarawak ABC or angtao peng is different from the one here. Err.. u don’t like the gigantic kidney beans? That one taste nice leh.. or u mean the atapchi, which taste good also (to me lah). :D Are u still hungry?

angel,
Chee nya kueh? Err… the name should be tee nya kueh lah.. :P Cos I see the name written as tee nya kueh at all the stalls selling these stuff leh..

“Yin Wong ah..” I was called sotong cos I used sotong previously to piak people.. not cos I’m blur sotong, hahahha…*luckily u r not hungry*

5xMom,
Oh, u ate there as well yesterday? The Mee Sultana used to be very famous in these place, but I haven’t try that for long long time already.. The standard has drop liao?

Butt,
Wow.. u are another one “night ghost” :D So late liao u r still awake… Watching football ah?

I prefer the fruits for fruit rojak rather than the sotong. If next time we go makan rojak, I can have the fruits and u can have all the sotong, hahah.. Oh Chean served with rice? I never eat that with rice.. So far, just makan the dish by itself, err.. I mean dip the oh chean into the chilli sauce loh..

Chen said...

Cynthia,
yeah, countless hawker stalls.. Can get almost everything there.. Very convenient :D

LB,
Fried Calamari? Next time u fried some for us to eat loh… since I’m not familiar with the joy of eating fried calamari, hahhahah…

Note to self : Must buy sotong next time when I go marketing in wet market :D

Winn,
The name is tee nya kueh, right? Angeliuliu says the name is chee nya kueh leh…

That 28888 post with 105 comments ah? Thanks to LB, Winn Tai Kar Je & Sbanboy for contributing loh as well as all the others :P

Izso,
Your camera also can take good picture mah.. Might be it’s time for u to pay a visit to Penang again? ;)

Chen said...

carcar,
come, come to Penang :) We can go there makan again :D

Liulian chendol? The last time I tried that was when I was in Malacca, the Tan Kim Hock liulian chendol.. but that was several years back liao… Oh Chen… *ahem*.. I see my name being mentioned everywhere :P Most of the Oh Chean here in Penang is not the crispy type like the one served in this stall.

mother superior,
If want to go on diet, then no choice have to eat at home.. cos there is so much temptation out there :)

kristopher,
Yeah, the ice kachang here is different from the ice kachang in Sarawak :)

miracle8,
u still haven’t have your breakfast? Heheh.. yeah, I’m excited. I’m going there very soon… in 5 weeks time. Looking forward to meet u all there in the Land of Hornbills :)

domestic goddess,
Nope, nope..No lah.. It is just pure co-incident… I used to post food posts as well in the past :)

L B said...

ok, put fried calamari on carcar's menu of what to cook, ok? LOL

Pink Cotton said...

hmmm the oyster omelette doesnt really look like the kuching one ho?

Chen said...

lb,
So, carcar will be the Chef for the Day? No problem.. as long as she is willing to cook :D

pink cotton,
I guess it’s different from the one in Kuching. I have never tasted the Oh Chean in Kuching but I saw the picture previously in few of the Sarawakian bloggers’ posts.

The Oh Chean I used to have in Penang looks like this, without the crispy edges :)
