Gawai Festival

So fast, today is 1st June 2005.. It's really amazing how time flies...

1st June.. well, it's another day in the 365 days over here in Peninsular Malaysia, but things are different in Sarawak, the Land of Hornbills, my place of origin :) Today is the Gawai Festival (celebrated on 1st & 2nd June in Sarawak, and it's public holiday over there as well.. so folks in Sarawak has a long break for this holiday.. if they take off on Friday ...)

Gawai festival is the celebration of the end of harvesting season & the start of a new farming season. Today, throughout Sarawak, the Iban community celebrate Gawai in their long houses, villages or urban homes with open invitation, sharing the finest of their hospitality with the other communities, & not forgetting, the much merry-making, Ngajat dancing and drinking of tuak( a potent local rice wine).

Tuak... Haven't drink that for long time already.. I think the last time i drank tuak is during Gawai Festival in 1999. I was still working in Sarawak at that time.. Visit my Iban friend, she's not only my good friend, but also my housemate, university coursemate and working colleague as well.. I still keep in touch with her up to today and visit her each time I go back to Sarawak :)

Hahah... not forgetting, today is also one of my university buddy's birthday :) ...

Use cooker or use wood fire also can wna.

Anonymous said...

watz d diff between cook rice n boil rice?

Anonymous said...

Boil is let it boil lor.

Cook is a form of hand movement activity.

Chen said...

Dr Evil
aiyoh.. hahhaha... like that also can?

Anonymous said...

Why not?

Boil only let it boil, you wait for the 'ting' then ready.

Cook you have to move hands, move here and there.

Chen said...

Dr Evil

hahha... sounds very logic as well..

Anonymous said...

but how come d machine to "boil" rice is called rice cooker n not rice boiler?

Anonymous said...

Nvm, make it exception.

Anonymous said...

Blue Girl, cause they wanna subsitute the machine with a person.

A person who cooks is called a Cook,

So the machine is names a cooker lor.

Anonymous said...

but y not call "rice boiler"??

dat rice cooker dun haf d movement of d hand wor...

Anonymous said...

Got, the movements are in the form of heat.

Rice boiler? The water boils the rice, with out water it cannot boil.

So you need a cook which is the heat and a machine and water to perform the whole task.

If call Rice boiler, means boil the rice non stop until it turn into porridge liao.

Anonymous said...

but u said cook got hand movement wor...

so how can it called cooker?

shuldnt b rite?

Anonymous said...

Got hand movement.

You dont put in the rice and water how to boil?

So got also. But something you dont see.

So it's interaction between a machine and a person and heat , so call it Rice Cooker

Anonymous said...

i put in d rice oni wor..

but i din use my hand to move here move there wor..

u said earlier on dat cooker got hand movement dat use d hand to move here move there....

wat say u?? =P

Anonymous said...

You pour in rice, your hand dont move wan ah? Only at one angle?

Anonymous said...
