Hatyai, Thailand : Deep fried food stuffs

Deep fried whole bird. Feel a bit kesian to eat the bird (since so cute), but since I bought it already, don't care so much loh... If I don't eat, it will end up in the dustbin also.. Better to store inside my tummy than in the dustbin ;)

Shrimp. Nothing special. The only special thing is the long claws and the size.. (*updated - now I remember, Thanks to Slurps. Yeah, something special about this shrimp is the "big head"... and there's lotsa roes inside the big head...)

I bought the deep fried whole birds from this particular stall (20 baht per bird). Bought 2 birds and one huge shrimp ( 60 baht per shrimp). There are several stalls selling similar fried foodstuff (whole bird, shrimp, crab, liver, chicken wing, drumstick, sausages etc) in Hatyai, Thailand.

Crabs, Shrimps, Drumstick/Chicken Thigh..

Whole birds, chicken, chicken wings, liver etc..

carcar,
The shrimp taste similar like the other shrimps.

The bird ah.. mmm... crispy loh, cos so tiny & the meat is minimal.. so when deep fried, everything will become crispy :D The taste.. nothing special lah..

You know? When I first glanced at the shrimp, it looked like a bird!! Try seeing it with the claws as the feet, and the tail as the bird's head...

oooh, this brings back memories of being in Phuket. heaps of these fried food stalls would line the streets, and you just walk along, pick what you like, and eat till the grease lines every inch of your intestines! LOL!

are those crabs on the plate waiting to be fried alive?
coz ppl usually cook them when they are ready to eat them..

it sure freaked the hell out of them if they were still alive, coz they know their turns cld be anytime soon..

_butt said...

Seeing those pics realli make me very, very hungry now.. if only I could have all of that for supper... *LOL*

izso said...

OMG.. CHOLESTEROOLLLLLLLL

Chen said...

Winn,
The crabs were actually KO already. (u can see from the picture they didn’t tied up the claws or pinchers). They cooked or fried the crabs earlier on already. When someone bought the foodstuff, they will re-fry the thing again on the spot.

So, the crabs have no worries.. cos they have already RIP (in crabs heaven – if there are such places)… LOL

butt,
Those foodstuffs are not good for supper leh.. not healthy to eat such high calories stuffs in the middle of the night :D

izso,
yeah, high calories stuff :)

Wahhh.. never expected to see these kinds of food at street stalls. Prawns and crabs, ermm interesting.

Chen said...

ben,
hahha, okie okie.. so u eat the headless birdie :D

nothing scary lah.. the palak want to stare, let it stare loh..
sometimes when we have 8 course dinner etc in restaurant, they also serve the chicken or duck together with the head mah :P

alicia,
yeah, I saw the big head prawns & crabs at several street hawker stalls :) Seems like it’s a norm over there…

Anyway I didn’t notice the deep fried soft shell crabs. I saw the fresh soft shell crabs from the Sunday morning market but not the ready cooked one.

kristopher,
I bought the deep fried whole bird out of curiosity cos I never tried eating bird meat before :)

Nothing special lah… Just like the other deep fried meat foodstuff..

jee,
yeah, this is indeed something different from the roadside hawker stalls in Malaysia.

Is this the same as the prawns which unker bought in the river from the natives when he went kayaking not long ago?
