Pinky stuff

Just realised i haven't update my blog for ages already. Wonder if anyone still drop by here? :)

I was in Miri few days back and saw this in the Iban market in town and bought some back home. Can't remember when was the last time I ate the "fruit". I think that was more than 20 years ago. I don't know what is the name of the "fruit" though. Love the "lemak" taste. :)

**Update 16/10/09**

Finally i found the name of the fruit - Engkala (Thanks to Sarawakiana for enlightening me). :)

Hi Nice to see you back!!
Do give me a call when you are in Miri again!

This fruit is called engkala. Before eating it you have to slap it to get rid of the chemical in the fruit that may give you an itch. Then you smoke it for a while. The taste is good.

The Malays pour hot water on it instead.

kyh,
A little bird whispers into your ear regarding the update here? Hehehe..

So far i have never see it in Peninsular though. :)

day dreamer,
The skin of the fruit is soft, and the fresh is white in colour, with the "lemak" taste. :)

Will,
LOL. Nope, the flesh is soft when ripe, with lemak taste. But not as lemak as durian lah :P

sarawakiana,
This trip to Miri is quite short. Will give u a call the next time i drop by Miri.

Thanks for the name. Finally i get to know what is this fruit called. We used to soak the fruit inside the warm water prior to eating it. But we never slap or pat the fruit before.

The iban lady who sell the fruit to me mentioned if i don't want to soak it in the water, then i can pat it with the spoon few times prior to eating it to soften it (as an alternative to soaking in water). I didn't know that can get rid of the chemical inside too. :)

Finally saw ur new update :-)

At first when I saw the fruit, I thought that was something that you 'created' as the head looks like lady finger's head and the body looks like 'red jambu'...dunno the exact name, but ppl use it to make rojak...some ppl call it 'red nose' in hokkien...

Hello!

I also went on a hiatus and stopped writing for a bit. I suppose Facebook became a greater priority.

For a while, I was down to a post every few months!

I do however keep a diary which I write a few times a week.
