Flower

This post is specially dedicated to Selba (or should be Selba's mum?), Robin and those kaki who likes flower, including Cynthia whom I missed out earlier on... Who else is flower lover here? Hands up, please ... I'm not a flower-lover and I don't fancy flower, but I like to take snapshots of flowers. And... don't ask me what is the name of those flowers, cos I really have no idea :)

One "sesat" pink-coloured flower.. "The Lost Sheep?"

Yellow-coloured flower is very eye soothing. Nice to look at.

This one ah.. no comment :)

This one ah.. look like fake flowers to me..pink + yellow + green.. Bad colour combination.. hahaha.. but those are real flowers :)

This one leh.. too orange. See also headache. Cannot see for long .. :)

Flower being "punished" - I mean "wrapped up" cos they are not "well behaved" - Oops, I'm talking craps again ??

Guess where I took all these shots?

This is the place.. Inside the Wet Market !!! - The Batu Lanchang Afternoon Market. Surprised?

wah Thanks.. so nice.

Chrysanthemum is the flower of Autumn, and one of the four scholars.

In this region, it is used for praying quite often... haha

Robin CHAN said...

Chrysanthemum flowers are boiled to make a sweet drink in some parts of Asia. The resulting beverage is known simply as "chrysanthemum tea" (菊花茶). Chrysanthemum tea has many medicinal uses, including an aid in recovery from influenza. (probably because of the pyrethrins, which are natural insecticide)

Did u know..
The leaves of several species are edible, and are grown commercially in East Asia as a leaf vegetable, known as tung ho (Chinese: 茼蒿; Pinyin: tónghāo) or shungiku (Japanese: 春菊[シュンギク]). In China, the greens are often stir-fried simply with garlic and dried chile peppers. The colour of the cooked greens is dark, their texture dense and mucilaginous, and their flavour fragrant and complex.

i like the deep fried flowers that I tried at Koh Kret, Thailand. Does that counts me as flower lover as well? :P

anyway, Chiang Mai @ Thailand will be having one of the largest horticultural exhibit in this region. you will have something like 80ha of land with various garden themes for your exploration. interested?

Sorry long time no visit doc!

Take care.

Chen said...

sharl612,
Oh..since u mentioned..now I remember.. I used to help my mother to water the plants/flowers in the garden at the late evening too .. in my old house in Sarikei :)

And not forgetting.. catching the siput babi/snail or ulat beluncas/caterpillar on the plants :)

Those were the days...

Furkids in HK,
Thanks. Guess u must be busy all these while with Cream & your hectic schedule :) Glad to see you back.

Nice pics Chen. Thanks. Beauty is where you find it. I always take a few minutes to wander through the gardening section outside our grocery and hardware stores - just to enjoy the plants and flowers. K always asks what I'm looking for and I always reply, I'm just looking at the flowers.

Selba said...

it means: it is beautiful :)

Slurp, thanks for the info about the Thailand largest horticultural exhibition.... Now.. am thinking to visit Thailand... or maybe buy my mom a flight ticket to see it!

Winn said...

do u think roses can be cooked and eat?

Chen said...

pandabonium,
yeah, and sniffing the clean and uncontaminated morning air, and the fragrant of the flowers ;)

Selba,
oh, okie :) Thanks. Have a look at the links below (my reply to Winn) regarding the edible flowers too.. It's amazing, hahahha... Imaging eating orchids, which is 'Warm and peppery" !!

Winn,
your question stir my thoughts... and I do a research on internet.. and my goodness... There are so many edible flowers around us.. Wow !!

This is what I gathered "You can eat almost any fragrant rose as long as it hasn’t been sprayed with chemical pesticides. Don’t eat the white bits at the base of the petals because these are bitter."

Below are the links :
1) edible flowers recipe
2) edible flowers

I still can't believe this :D

Oh... I remebered... I did eat flower salad at Fashion Cafe long time ago. It tasted funny... I couldn't really finish the whole plate because of the aroma.

Have seen on TV that flowers are being fried in Thailand (and also a few part in China) as snack, same as the bugs on the street stalls.

Let's try it!!! kekeke

Selba,
Wow, u eat flowers before too? Flower Salad.. mmm... tasted funny? or cos u r not used to eating flowers yet? Hehehe..

I had eaten the preserved flower previously (I can't remember what flower is that) but not the fresh flowers or fried flower :)

maria,
My Fair Lady? That's very old movie .. I have some vague memories on the beginning of the musical movie.. The flower girl :)

selba,
you're welcome. since you like loy khrathong, might as well go during Nov and enjoy both at the same time. but be sure to book early as the accomodation can be quite packed.

chen,
since flowers can be brewed as tea, i guess that why they can be eaten as well. but for eating them raw, be sure it's organic & free from chemicals.

Chen said...

slurp,
yeah, if unsure of the status of the flower, then better don't eat.. Or else might get food poisoning :)
