Mongolian Feast

LB brought rain to Penang, Angel also brought rain to Penang, and now it's my turn to bring rain to KL? Raining kucing and anjing in the evening of my arrival causing flash flood in certain areas. Gosh, the weather was so unpredictable as the weather was still hot and sunny half an hour earlier on. Met up with Angel in the late evening and since we were neither here nor there coz of the time constraint, we decided to go the Inner Mongolia Restaurant in Jalan Pudu early. Since we have ample time, we sampat analysed the menu (written in Chinese) in great details. The pig brain sounds good, as I haven't eat it for ages. LOL.. but if I order that, Angel might piaks me with her Doraemon Bag Miss Whatever Bag. hahahhaha

Soon, King’s wife and her two lovely daughters, Laundry Amah, Rinnah (who seem lost and asking the waitress for the directiontable, and she was almost pointed to another table till Angel yelled RINNAH..) , Nyonya Penang, NarrowBand (versus BroadBand?) arrived and filled up the seats..

This is our "Mandarin Duck"(well, this is what they wrote on the menu), I mean The Ying Yong (鸳鸯) Mongolian Steamboat with Herbal and Spicy Soup base (with a thick layer of spicy chili oil on top). Angel said the spicy soup tasted like the Maggie instant noodle curry flavour woh.. My verdict was.. it's mild not that spicy. I was hoping for something really hot and spicy judging from the red colour :P

Moooo...... The Fei Ngau / 肥牛 (Beef Rolls Slices)

Lazy to take photo and the only photo I took was the specialty 肥牛 Beef Rolls Slices (from Mongolia?). We also had a Tungku feast with all the abalone mushroom, chinese mushroom, golden needle/enoki mushroom bla bla... Laundry Amah cracked laughters with her laundry tales and the 特别服务 (special service) jokes. And not forgetting the highlight of the night ~ sucking the Foochow fishball (which resemble nipple?) scene. Ngek ngek..

Since we were still hungry, the night was still early, We went for second round - Dessert at KTZ @ Fruitti Stall Speciality Restaurant in Imbi. What else if not the signature Mango Loh? And some light snacks with wonderful names which amused us such as Ham Chin Band (instead of Ham Chin Peng/咸煎饼) and Wall Band (锅饼).

Btw, today is the fatt hao Ehon's 21st Cow One. Happy Birthday Yee Hon. Big Boy liao and don't misuse your "key". Kekkeke, and I will eat something nice for brunch on your behalf later on :P

Where?

Today is the day (*ahem*. I mean Mooncake Festival). Where were you during the Mid Autumn/Mooncake Festival over the last few years? Most of the time I were outside Penang. This year, I won't be in Penang either, but I'm still in Malaysia.
Mid Autumn Festival :
2001: can't remember where was I..
2002: Kelantan, Malaysia
2003: Germany
2004: China
2005: Penang , Malaysia
2006: Brunei Darussalam
2007: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
2008: ??? (Sarawak?)
I wonder where will I be the next Mooncake Festival in 2008? Will I be in Sarawak? Time will tell. I haven't spend mooncake festival at home for ages. I guess the last time I spent mooncake festival together with my family in Sarawak was.. mmmm...15 years ago? Gosh..

Mooooooo...ncake

It is almost the time of the year again, the Mid Autumn Festival or 中秋节 is just around the corner. Wonder if there is any Mooncake Lantern available in the market for this Lantern Festival?

The Golden Chinese Ham with Assorted Nuts Mooncake (伍仁金火腿月餅). Very ocipala. *Busy counting the evil calories hidden inside each bite*

The Liulian Durian Mooncake with Yolk - I presume Angel will like this, since she hearts and lup liulian very much. I can imagine Angel singing 月饼 月饼,我爱你 this coming Mooncake Festival. Hahahaha..

Which one is your favourite? The traditional baked mooncake, the snowskin (peng pei) mooncake or the jelly mooncake? The traditional and simple flavour or the modern and exotic flavour? IMHO, the lotus paste with salted egg yolk ham dan plus kuaci is still the best. And err.. I wanna eat the whisky and champagne mooncake !! *Wishful Thought*

*I presume the Moo Moos will love Mooooooooooo..ncake too*

Photo Hunters : Paper

photo hunters

Today's theme is Paper.

Since I put up the credit card picture for the theme plastic, what else will I put up for the theme paper if not $$$ notes? This is the type of paper that everyone likes. Do you know anyone who dislikes money? I know money cannot buy everything but without money we cannot buy anything. How to survive if one has no money? What an irony truth. But bear in mind never worship money nor become slaves to moolah.

Do you agree that Money is the Root of ALL Evil? I will modify the statement to The Love of Money is the Root of MOST Evil.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Restoran Foong Wong - This is the place where I used to have lunch (either economy rice or wantan mee) together with my coursemates during the uni days. The makan place is located strategically, just opposite the hospital (GHKL), and next to MMA building.

I miss their Char Siew Wantan Mee (叉烧云吞麵). I love their char siew wantan mee, and up to date, i still couldn't find any other stalls in KL or Penang selling better wantan mee than this place (my personal opinion lah of coz). I finally had the chance to savour my beloved wantan noodle again end of last year ( after not tasting it for almost 9 years!). I'm still lovin' it. The same person is still operating the stall (husband and wife), but he has grow much older, put on weight with more wrinkles and grey hair. What to expect? I also grow old liao over the years :P And the price of wantan mee has increased from RM2.00 during those days to RM 3.50 (in December 2006). I dunno what is the latest price.

The next morning, i took the Tungku Kai Keok Mee/Braised Chicken Feet Mushroom Noodle (冬菇鸡脚麵). Can't remember the exact price. Either RM4.00 or RM 4.50. Since I hardly get the chance to eat here, must sapu kaw kaw when I have the chance. I will come back to this stall again.. soon.. very soon...next week ! Lao hao sui liao... Slurp... hou hou sek... YEAH !

Miss Whatever in Town

Miss Whatever Angel sent me a sms last Sunday "Psstt, u pree to go sampat?". *Snip* She hopped onto the ferry to Penang island, and the journey began.

This is how her NEW nickname Miss Whatever came about (something that i just decided a couple of seconds ago). Thanks to her Miss Whatever Doraemon Bag (according to the fatt hao Ehon, she has anything and everything in there). Since Ehon took a picture of her bag, I die-die also must take one shot :P

What to do in Penang island? What else besides makan-ing? and of coz not forgetting sampat-ing too leh. The sky was dark and I thought it might rain later in the night, hence I chose sheltered eating outlets, but my weather forecasting failed. Mr Rain didn't pay Penang a visit that night. New World Park, Here we go !! Oh Chean, Chee Cheong Fun, Penang Fruit Rojak, Chendol and Ambla Soei Boey. Chow chow chow, Yak yak yak, Eat eat eat, Snap snap snap and Talk talk talk (but we don't gossip, unlike someone.. *ahem*) till the Moos almost come back home. LOL

After makan, it's time to jalan-jalan cari makan again. Of course we jalan-jalan and see-see look-look for a while first before we cari makan again. Wah.. ada fountain inside New World Park, which reminds me of KL. Deja Vu liao. This is quite a happening place. Bakuteh King, 600 cc, Nyonya Cafe, Banana Leaf Restaurant, Sheng Hiang store, NetCity Cybercafe, Old Town Kopitiam, coming Starbucks etc etc..

We continue our whatever-ing session in the Old Town Kopitiam. The night owl, Angel minum kopi and I had non caffeinated drink (if i drink coffee at 9 pm, insomnia will befriend me for sure). Ice cream toast out of stock (bawl) and we settled down with Peanut Butter toast instead. Yak yak yak again.. censored *snip*. Time flies and tick tock tick tock.. almost 10 pm liao, and we had spent almost 3 hours in the airy & spacious New World Park.

Angel, HOW CAN i forget to hug u leh that night? I know why liao, cos I'm driving. LOL.. I must remember to do so when I see u again this coming Sunday. My sampat partner in crime, and the Queen of Rock, Paper & Scissors. &aposHugs&apos (<- U know I know what this means), Kkkkkkkkk.

月亮代表我的心

It's the eight month moon again, and Mooncake festival is just around the corner. Yeah yeah yeah, next week mah. Somehow, we cannot separate 中秋节/Mooncake Festival from the popular classic evergreen love song, 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represent My Heart) by 邓丽君 (Theresa Teng).

Reminiscing the old days when we celebrated Mooncake Festival in Lake Titiwangsa with my Chinese coursemates during my university days - Mooncakes and Lanterns and my ex-coursemate who played guitar and singing the classic 月亮代表我的心 song.

And yeah, The Moon Indeed Represents Our Hearts

Cabbages and Condoms

Why Cabbages and Condoms ?? What has Cabbages to do with Condoms? The first time I came across the name was from Bibik Nyonya's post, featuring the Cabbages and Condoms Potato Chips. Many have been wondering how the name arise including yours truly.
A week or two ago, I found out there is a makan place with the name Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand. What a name !! It is to raise funds for Thailand's Population and Community Development Association (PDA) and to promote birth control and family planning, to boost HIV/AIDS awareness and other health related issues. How the name Cabbages and Condoms come about? It is to promote condoms usage - to made it as common as and accepted just like cabbages, as cabbages are common food and staple diet in Northeast Thailand.

"Our food is guaranteed NOT to cause pregnancy." Hahaha.. What a unique and eye-catching slogan.

Photo Hunters : Plastic

photo hunters

Today's theme is Plastic.

Presenting 2 pieces of Plastic that I always carry together with me inside my wallet, which are none other than my Credit Cards. I only have 2 credit cards, one Classic Visa and one Gold Mastercard. Two is sufficient. It is troublesome to carry so many cards around. But we need to have more than one credit card, just in case one of the lines goes cuckoos when paying time, and also for online purchases such as Air Asia air tickets. Thanks to credit cards, we don't have to carry big amount of cash around as the crime rates nowadays are high. But on the other hand, we cannot carry too little cash either :P

p/s: Nowadays, we are often approached by staffs from different banks at shopping malls, offering credit cards with annual fee waiver up to two or three years and even free for life credit cards. Some of them can be very persistent and annoying. One easy and efficient tactic to avoid them from continue bugging (which I had used continuously over the past one year) is to tell them I'm already using that particular credit card rather than telling them I'm not interested. The trick works 100%. Hahhaha..

How many credit cards you have? ;)

*This is NOT a sponsored post* :P

Tapai

Maymay has forgotten what is Tapai. Ehon is unsure what is Tapai either (when I yakked with him few days back).

This is Tapai - fermented rice with sweet alcoholic taste wrapped with banana leaves. Don't worry, u won't mabuk nor drunk after eating it. However, there is no $$$ back guarantee either :P

Side Note : Tapai ≠ Tupai. Tapai is not Tupai nor squirrel meat. Rest assured NO Tupai were injured in the process of making Tapai. LOL

The Exotic Duck Tongue

Does this piece of meat looks familiar? or kinky? Or does it reminds you of something?

Looking at the same stuff but from different angle, and the bony parts resemble the Y-shaped lastik or catapult. *Toink*

Those are the Exotic Spicy Duck Tongues. Something which is not widely available. I dunno how to describe the taste and texture. Kinda unique with fatty texture and slightly crunchy. There are bones inside the ducks' tongues. And you have to nibble the tongue meat off from the bone. That was the first time I tasted duck tongues and I don't mind tasting it again in the future. How about you?

p/s: Up to date, I'm still wondering... why do Ducks have Bones inside their Tongues ??? Why Why Why ?

Sunny Hill

Yesterday night I browsed through some "old" photos and came across these batch of snapshots, taken in May 2007 during my previous visit back home. I still have vague memories of the following sms dialogues a couple of minutes before we went to Sunny Hill, Kuching.
Ben : Free to go out ah? Chia u eat sunny hill ice cream.
Me : I'm free. OK
Ben : Ask Pink Cotton and see whether she free to join or not?
Me : Ah Ben asked u wanna go sunny hill for ice cream?
Pink Cotton : Now? I'm going to church. u ask him raining eat what ice cream?
Me : Haha, last time winter time also i ate ice cream leh.

Sunny Hill Ice Cream, here we came (together with Ah Ben since Pink Cotton pergi church @ Sunday evening). The sky was dark and cloudy but didn't rain. Kuching folks have been enjoying the popular Sunny Hill Ice Cream, which has been operating for decades but this was my first visit there. Some said that Sunny Hill Ice Cream is the best ice cream in town. Business was good and we had to queue up for the sweet (+ salty) treat.

The creamy and smooth vanilla-flavoured soft ice cream with peanut chunks as topping (or also known as the pam pam pam type of soft ice cream by Ah Ben), which became soggy towards the end. Hehehe

This is something unique - the salty popcorn, which we don't get to see frequently. And up to date, I have never come across any salted popcorn yet in Penang. I prefer the salted popcorn in comparison with the widely available sweetened or caramel popcorn.

*Thinking.. My next visit back home to Kuching, Sarawak, but when?

SDE

Tonight I have the urge of wanting to eat 咸鸭蛋. The craze for Tungku Soup is over. Salted Duck Egg (SDE) won the fight against Mushroom Soup (MS) - SDE piaks MS with ham ap dan. The ham ap dan mia egg shell broken and contaminated the tungku soup, giving MS weird and salty taste. that's why SDE gains victory (foul play loh)...

Since this is not healthy stuff, I haven't indulge in salted egg for months. (psss.. the photo was taken few months back). Might be I should buy few 咸鸭蛋 from the market tomorrow morning? Heavenly loh if eating the ham ap dan (not the raw one lah of course) together with white rice or porridge. I still prefer the fatty red-orange egg yolk than the salty egg white.

Anyone heart Salted Duck Egg or SDE or Ham Ap Dan or 咸鸭蛋 or Telur Masin or Telur Asin? Say YES !! (and not forgetting the duck egg char koay teow :P)
