Roti Canai

I chit-chat with Sbanboy this evening, and he asked me to post on food - the reason is that so he can feel hungry tonight when he looks at this later on after his revision? Huh? Since you requested for it, I will oblige :)

I guess every Malaysian knows what is this.. none other than our beloved Roti Canai. Something that most of us have very frequently as breakfast. It's a norm over here to have teh tarik with either roti canai or nasi lemak for breakfast. Oops... unhealthy breakfast again..

Some people like to dip the roti canai into the gravy or kuah or curry (whatever u called it).. Some like to pour the curry on top of the roti canai. Some like to flood the roti canai with curry (the roti banjir).. Normally I will pour the curry on top of the roti canai - that's my way of eating it. How you prefer yours? Or do you prefer roti telur, roti pisang, roti sardin etc rather than the plain roti canai? :)

I dip the roti into the kuah...

Any "roti" is fine with me. Roti telur, roti planta, roti tisu...

I love murtabak too! Hehe...

Ah... now, I know.. that most of the time I have mistaken between Roti Canai and Roti Prata... I thought they are the same thing.

I ate Roti Prata when I was in Singapore then few months ago, I had Roti Canai at a Penang rest. in Jakarta. But that time I thought that's Roti Prata in a different version or different name since it's from Penang, hahaha... Silly me....

day dreamer,
proven u r roti "lover" :P

thao,
The dish is composed of dough (ghee butter, egg, flour & water). The entire mixture is kneaded thoroughly, flattened, oiled & folded repeatedly. It is then allowed to rise & the process is repeated. The final round of preparation consists of flattening the dough ball, coating it with oil and then cooking on a flat iron skillet with a lot of oil. The ideal roti canai is flat, fluffy on the inside but crispy & flaky on the outside. Traditionally, roti canai is served with dhal curry.

LB,
so sad :(
I guess there are frozen roti available there as well ? :P

selba,
These are something similar. Roti prata has more variations :)

Usually I prefer roti canai kosong, or roti telur.

However, I don't think I have tried taking that as breakfast. Usually as supper only :)

Sound like it really is well-accompanied with curry, a bit similar to Indian dish, I love Indian foods ;-)

Mine is always a roti telur on top of a roti kosong! Nothing more nothing less! Mixing these two roti will "complement" each other's taste! ;) try and u will know it!

Hehe.. so do u finally have roti canai today? ;) Or u manage to tahan the crave :P

thao,
Roti Canai is Indian food ;)

foodcrazee,
Roti tampal? Nope.. haven't try it before, in fact, never heard of it before too.. Nowadays, so many new varieties of roti :)

spinosum,
woh.. roti telur on top of roti kosong? Normally I feel full already after eating one piece of roti telur :P Wait till a day when I'm super hungry then I will order that :D

I like it plain with lots of curry gravy on it. Kari ikan if available. Hmmm....making me very hungry.
BTW: I like the 'retired' heading you place on the unupdated blogs (:

IMLS,
u prefer kari ikan? I prefer the dhal curry :) flooding the roti canai with the curry.. ;)

most of the roti prata in SG are usually made in advance and they served you by simply warming them up again. I hate this.

so I will also be anti roti-prata until they can serve me "made upon order" roti prata with plenty of fluffy layers.

p.s: well there is one, but it's double the price & queue :(

Chen said...

slurp,
mmmm... the ready made in advance one not so nice compared to the freshly cooked one or "made upon ordered" one :) I love the roti pisang & roti sardin :)
