"Pre-Merdeka Day"On Call

On call yesterday (30/8/05) in Maternity Hospital. My colleague who was on call the day before yesterday (29/8/05) gave me one small homemade "ping pi" mooncake with white lotus & egg yolk fillings (made by her mum when she went back home to KL last weekend). Her on call was apparently very busy till she didn't even have time to eat her lunch..

Started my day with a 3rd degree tear post assisted vaccum delivery.

I give epidural (for labour pain) for one primigravida lady doctor who is in early labour at 5:40 pm. She was having quite frequent contraction pain. Thank God I manage to get it done with just a single shot without any difficulties. Epidural for labour pain might be difficult to get in pregnant mothers compared to the normal populations especially those who are oedematous(swollen bodies) or with pre-ecclampsia. And moreover, there's difficulties for the parturients in positioning and to stay still for insertion of epidural as well cos they have frequent regular contraction pain..

The epidural for labour pain is really fantastic :) She has instant pain relief a short while after the few boluses of 0.5% plain marcain given through the epidural catheter. She was quite comfortable throughout the period while on cocktail epidural infusion.. However, she had prolonged second stage and had to undergo emergency Caesarean Section. Her cute merdeka babies comes out to see the world at the early morning on Merdeka Day, around 1:46 am :) Cord blood was collected (upon request) to be stored in Cord Blood Bank. Congrats to her and her hubby... Her hubby is a doctor working in my hospital as well, while she was a doctor in clinic :)

Have been giving lotsa epidural for labour pain to either doctors, doctors' wives or staff nurses or hospital staffs :) One of them is LT's wife end of last year. Now their twins are 10 months old already - very cute babies ..

Spent the pre-merdeka night yesterday night in hospital.. "Countdown" in hospital (not actually countdown as well, cos I was doing some other things when the clock strikes twelve ;). I have "countdown" many times in the hospital previously.. Even the millenium eve was spent in the hospital as well.. in Sarawak General Hospital. I was on call that night on 31/12/1999 in Sarawak General Hospital... There was one emergency Caesarean Section going on when the clock strikes twelve :) So fast, previously everyone was busy talking about Y2K or millenieum bugs and now it's 2005 already.. How time flies... we are getting older day by day :)

Happy 48th Birthday, Malaysia :)

Today (31th August) our beloved country, Malaysia, celebrates it's 48th year of independence. Come to think about it, Malaysia is actually "formed" on 16th September 1963...

Wonder what most of the people here do on "National Day"?
  • Sleep/rest and can shake leg at home or go jalan-jalan, since it's public holiday (well, some people still have to work on this day). I will go tidur later on since I didn't really sleep yesterday night. Was on call in the hospital yesterday (and on call tomorrow as well) .. So, No countdown for me ...
  • Watching the National Day parade on tv? (since each tv channels show the same programmes, unless one have Astro, then no choice but to watch the national day parade, kekeke) - I watched the parade for just a short while only after I came back from work this morning.. Then I go out for breakfast cum lunch together with my hubby.
  • Hanging or displaying the "Jalur Gemilang" - I participate as well by flying the "Jalur Gemilang" on my blog :D. Here in Penang, there's a giant Jalur Gemilang as well as the Penang State flag fluttering outside Prangin Mall :) And there's another giant Jalur Gemilang (30 m x 60 m) being tied to a huge boulder at the hillslope of Bukit Gambier as well.
  • Well... what else? I can't think much now since I'm giddy already.. time for me to get some sleep (since I'm on call yesterday, and got cases in the middle of the night and in the early morning.. will blog about that later on)
Selamat Hari Kebangsaan..

Merdeka !! Merdeka !!

Doraemon (小叮噹/小叮当)

Last time, during my primary school days (in the early 80's), doraemon is known as "xiao ding dang" (小叮噹/小叮当). During those days, "xiao ding dang" is still not so famous yet , but i am one of his fans already, during my childhood time as well as my primary school time... but nowadays no more already lah.. Haven't read doraemon comics or "xiao ding dang" for long time already.. (I still prefer calling doraemon as "xiao ding dang".. since that's what i call him when i was still a small kid ...)

"Xiao Ding Dang" is a round, blue coloured cat-style robot (without the ears) from the future; He has a 4 dimensional pocket filled with lotsa useful futuristic gadgets and devices. He loves dorayaki (snacks with"tao sar" or red bean fillings). I can still recall why this cat-based robot fear of rats, cos his ears was bitten off by the rats one day when he was taking his afternoon nap :P.. that's why he's so phobia & fear of rats... and hates them as well.

I have lotsa Xiao Ding Dang/Doraemon & Xiao Ding Ling(his younger sister) small little rubber toys collection, around 1 to 2 cm in height... I get those as attached free gifts inside the keropok or junk food (20 cents keropok per packet) last time during my childhood days.. ;) Besides the little Xiao Ding Dang, I have lotsa little E.T. toys as well.. These are free gifts from the keropok as well..

Those cute little rubber toys are still around .. cos I keep them in a special little box.. but not together with me now. I keep them in my parents' house in Sarawak. Since they shifted house not long ago, I dunno where are the toys now. In one of the boxes in one of the corner of the new house :).

Last time we don't have much choices in term of cartoon & comics .. "Xiao Ding Dang" 小叮噹 & "Lao Fu Tze" 老夫子 or Master Q are the two popular ones... accompany us during our childhood time as we grow up. Last time can only read from comic books cos Xiao Ding Dang cartoon still not yet available at those days. However, I read the Xiao Ding Dang comic stories not straightly from xiao ding dang comic books, but from the kiddies comic book 兒童樂園 "ér tóng lè yuán" (Children's Paradise) (published in HK) with lotsa comic stories for kids (some are educational), and Xiao Ding Dang is part of the comic stories in that comic book ... This comic book i think is no longer available nowadays.. Cos I never see it in the market already.

Human skeleton

During my undergraduate time; first year in medical faculty.. in order to familiarise ourselves with the anatomy or skeletal part of human being, me and my 4 other female chinese coursemates(There are only 5 chinese girls in my year out of total 180+ medical undergraduates, and 15 chinese guys) bought a set of real human skeleton from our second year senior in 1993 .. containing skull, ribs bones, spines, hips, pelvic bones, long bones, etc etc... at the price of less than RM200

I have no idea where is the origin of this set of skeleton.. (Indian? Chinese? Malay? or ? No idea...) What I know is this set of skeleton has been passing down and circulating around from the seniors to juniors for many "generations" already..

At first it was indeed scary to think of putting a set of real human skeleton in our room, just next to our beds.. a real life skull, at least a "real" skull, if not a "living" one !! Holding the skull, somehow an unsightly object, which had once been the head and face of a living person. (I wonder... if it belongs to a good looking person??) I still remember the skull with grinning face with some missing teeth, hahah... Later on we get so used with the skeleton that we even play around with it... throwing it up and down etc etc... At times, I even have the habit of holding the femur long bone with my right hand and hitting my left palm gently while thinking :)

The skeletal however had been our constant companion during our first year in medical faculty.. The next following year (when we were in second year), we sold the skeletal to our juniors... I presume this set of skeletal is still circulating among my juniors in medical faculty, National University of Malaysia :)

Too bad I didn't take any pictures of the set of human skeletons that we owned for a year previously.. (What to do? Previously I don't have any cameras.. not even the "traditional" film cameras.. and btw, there's no digital camera yet during my time way back in 1993)

Unnecessary ICU Referal.. Taking the easy way out..

I am really pissed off at times when I am really busy (sometimes can be damn busy that I don't even have time to sit down ..) and receiving these annoying "unnecessary" referrals to ICU.. When I am too busy I can be sarcastic (definitely not to the patients but to the doctor who made the unnecessary referral)

Aiyks... I was on call on ICU that day and received a phone call referring a case to me... This patient has just undergo some minor surgery under spinal anaesthesia 2 hours ago, and now she has fever with chills and rigor.. Upon further questioning to the doctor who referred the case to me on the phone, the patient was actually very well, comfortable, alert and conscious,(no deterioration in conscious level) breathing well under room air(not in respiratory distress or tachypnoea and doesn't require any oxygen supplement), with stable vital signs.. normal blood pressure(not hypotensive, and didn't require any inotropic support), normal heart rates (not tachycardia).. except she is having fever (which is no big deal.. Post op febrile reaction is common... ). Patient is already started on iv antibiotics..

I don't know what the heck they want to refer me this case for.. What they expected me to do? I asked the medical officer who referred me the case what he wants me to do or what he expects from me after I review the case.. He couldn't answer the questions I asked him, just mentioning that he speaks to his specialist about the case, and the specialist want the ICU doctors to go and have a look.. This is really unnecessary referral... I''m not going to offer anything to the patient since she is too fit to be admitted to ICU. Moreover it's just fever post op which can be managed easily in the normal ward. He can definitely manage to case himself. He think I am very free and have nothing to do??? They shouldn't refer every small matters to ICU people!!! More and more people are actually getting the easy way out by referring to ICU whatever things that they unable to do themselves or don't know how to do/what to do and then "wash hands". I myself have lotsa things to do as well, and my main priorities are to my patients inside ICU... I can't be running around all over the hospital to manage every patients.. Crazy !!

Lately we are getting to many of these unnecessary referrals, increasing our workloads unnecessarily.. More irritating things are getting referrals to set branula and central venous lines or even to the extend of inserting nasogastric tubes for patients on ventilator in the wards.... These are some basic procedures that every doctors should know how to do and it's nothing difficult. If I'm free, I will oblige (provided they themselves have tried it several times and couldn't get it).. If not free, like what my other colleague in the same department mentioned : "Ask them to "fly kite" lah.." They have so many peoples/medical staffs in the ward, ranging from several house officers, few medical officers as well as few specialists.. I don't believe none of them can perform the procedures.. These things are not so difficult to do anyway... Some of them even don't bother to try themselves first and refer straight away...

Just like when I was busy that day when on call in ICU, I get a referral for setting up central venous lines.. The doctor who referred the case to me tell me he has attempted but failed.. Well, I asked him back; has he sought for help from the other doctors in the same ward or from his specialist(s)? They have so many doctors in charge of one ward.. I don't believe there's no one there to help him. Instead of taking the easy way up and push everything to me/doctor in ICU? I'm busy as well, and I have lotsa things and procedures to do in my own ICU, and taking care of so many critically ill and sick patients. And furthermore, I don't have HO or house officers to help me or assist me.. Everything has to be done on my own..

Some even better, when I go there to help them to insert the central venous lines, the person who referred the case to me was not around (heard from the nurse, he went back to his on call room already, sleeping I presume... ). At least have the courtesy to assist or learn lah if they don't know how to do the procedure properly.. I'm not born with all these skills and abilities or experties.. All the skills that I have now, I don't obtain it with the easy way.. I learn it through experiences and through regular practices.. There's no easy ways out...

Another irritating thing... when patients who are on ventilator in the ward collapsed, some of the nurses/junior doctors inform the ICU doctor as well... Hey, come on lah... there are few doctors in charge of every single ward in the hospital and there are doctor(s) on call there as well. What the heck they want to inform us in ICU? I frankly asked them "Do you know how to do CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation)? If you know, then go ahead and do CPR, if u don't know how to do CPR, call your senior MOs to assist you!".. I only have a pair of hands and I can't be running all around the whole hospital to resuscitate everyone. And of course there are exceptions as well, regarding the new cases in A&E or emergency unit who are unstable and needs help in resuscitation or intravascular access, then we will surely help to resuscitate..

Birthday, 生日快樂

Happy Birthday, 生日快樂 Sis :)

Today is my sister's birthday.. Her birthday is very close to mine.. exactly one week difference. So we will never forget each other's birthday :P Well, I remember all my siblings as well as my parents birthdays..

Aiyoh.. Thinking about it, I haven't see my sister for so long already.. Last time I meet her as well as my brother in law & my nephews was Chinese New Year in 2004 :( I miss my nephews.. The little one likes to talk with me each time I called my sister, and he will be the one who answer the phone..

Although our birthday are so near, when we are small time, my parents always celebrate both events seperately.. So can get to eat good food twice in just a short duration. During those days, when we were still small, my mum will cook few nice dishes on our birthdays.. She will bake a cake as well, with nice icing toppings.. Simple but very meaningful birthday celebration ;) Celebrate together with my close family members. Although we do cut cake everytime on our birthday, but most of the time, we don't blow candles ... :P Kekeke.. So I don't have the habit of making birthday wish during my birthday ;) My parents don't practise giving birthday presents to us as well... But we don't mind :) And we do take family photos each time during our birthdays :) So I can still recall back those good old days when looking back at those photos... :)
Good old memories :)

Taking Blood with One Hand?

There's one patient with a very huge neck abscess coming for surgery few days ago. The patient was just admitted and no GXM taken yet. The abscess is so huge that he can hardly turn or extend his neck. Since there's probability of airway problem and difficult intubation as well as bleeding problem.. So I helped the ENT Medical Officer to take blood for Grouping and Cross Match (GXM) in the Operation Theatre before pushing the patient into the Operating Room.

As usual, I poke the syringe with attached needle into the antecubital fossa of the upper limb and withdraw some blood. After I withdraw the blood, the ENT MO was sort of amazed (from his remarks) that I can actually withdraw the blood using one hand only.. Hahha, I didn't realise about that cos all this while throughout the years, I am so used to perform procedures or taking blood with only one hand. And it sort of becoming like a routine already.. Yeah, ways back during the medical school days, the proper techniques taught for taking blood were to use both hands.. One to stablise the syringe and the other one to withdraw or aspirate the blood. Well... throughout all these years and from experience as well, I have sort of obtained the skills of taking blood with one hand... All these while when I set Central Venous Lines, Femoral Lines, Double Lumen Cathether etc (inserting the needle time after locating the landmarks & when withdrawing blood for backflow etc..), I'm using one hand as well... I think most people in my department obtained this skill as well... I didn't realise about this at all till he pointed out that day... :) Something interesting :)

Morbid Obesity

Today I have a morbidly obese patient coming in for surgery.. Her BMI (body mass index) is 44.4. She is slightly shorter than me but her body weight almost double mine... Body weight of 108 kg with height of 156 cm. She is not the biggest size patient that I have seen or treated so far..

There's many many more who are bigger than her.. I can recall few... One of them is one of our recent ICU patient, with the problem of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) with bronchopneumonia and respiratory failure, requiring intubation and ventilatory support. I don't know what's her actual body weight but she is very very huge and definitely she weights more than 150 kg. Thank God no difficult intubation (Cormack and Lehane Grade 1 on laryngoscopy)

Another one that I can recall is a 156 kg lady came in for BTL (bilateral tubal ligation). Couldn't get any blood pressure cuff that suits her.. I think we put an arterial line for her at the end.. And it's so difficult to do regional anaesthesia for her. Difficult to do the surgery for her cos the fat layer is so thick.. So much adipose fat tissue... And the interesting thing is that her husband is so "small size".. something like 50 kg only :)

My fellow colleague, Gasman posted something on morbid obesity as well not long ago.

Bilin/Midin Fern

Some call it Midin Fern, some call it milin fern, while other call it as bilin...
Well... All Sarawakians will know about this vegetable.. the wild fern with curled leaf stalks, found in the jungle in the Borneo Island :) This wild jungle fern is a culinary dish of Borneo Island/Sarawak. So far, I haven't see this vegetable outside Borneo Island..

This is one of the vegetable dishes that I liked very much... I'm sure most Sarawakians who study abroad or working outstation will buy/order this dishes when they go back home to Sarawak. It's indeed very delicious.... Yummy... This wild jungle fern can be cooked with shrimp paste/sambal belachan or anchovies/ikan bilis or garlic or wine.. Too bad I didnt take any photos of the dishes previously.. I will sure do so during my next trip back home to Sarawak.

I was talking about this wild fern to Lawrence, a fellow Sarawakian, now working in Penang few days ago... Milin fern is apparently one of his favourite dishes as well :) Damn... Now I'm craving for it already..... :( Will only get to eat it during my next trip back home to Sarawak :(

Seafood Dinner in Kepong

Kenneth(aka Jellyfish) came to pick me and my hubby up tonight for dinner. Heavy traffic jam. We get stuck in the heavy traffic jam for one hour plus. Now, thinking back, I'm really glad I don't have to face "heavy traffic jam" problems back home in Penang.. If I have to get stuck in the traffic jam like that everyday, then really "cham" loh...

Had seafood dinner tonight in Tak Fok Seafood Restuarant in Kepong together with Kenneth, Wai Kiat and Izso. Wai Kiat and Chris arrived much earlier on already.. Supposed to meet at 8 pm but we were late cos of the heavy traffic jam. The place was damn packed with people (in other word, "Full House"... If Kenneth didn't made any reservation earlier on, then sorry loh ...

My hubby and I get to try few new dishes that we have never tasted before so far.. Salted Egg Yolk Crabs or "ham tan hai"(very yummy but "unhealthy" as well.. Hahhaha... cos high cholesterol .. imagine salted egg yolks combined with crabs ---> made it more unhealthy, but, who cares :P cos it's so delicious... and we only eat it once in a bluemoon.. And most important thing is... my cholesterol level is low, kekeke.. only 3.5 mmol/l), Baked Cheese Crabs, butter prawn (lai yau har), sizzling plate hot tohu (tit pan tau fu) & one green vegetables...

Nearly forget about this.. We ordered the little bun or "man tou" as well... Dip the mantou in the baked cheese crabs gravy, yum yum... Basically, we sapu the all the food till clean :)

Kenneth is really "good"... He eats crabs with fork and spoon.. Dunno how long he takes to master this piece of "art".. Really "very professional" - the Master or Sifu of Crabs (or "craps"??) , hahhaha... The rest of us, not up to that level, eat with our hands :)

In conclusion, The seafood dinner is very nice and we really enjoyed our meal. And thanks to Wai Kiat for the meal and not forgetting Kenneth as well as Izso for arranging the dinner :)

After dinner, we went in Wai Kiat's car for TT in McMutiara McD & met up with few more people.. including Tommy (aka JusticeBao or JB), AhBoy (sharing the same nickname with my cute little doggy, kekekek), Big Boss Chiew, Justin & few others...

Went back home around 12 midnight. Aiyoh.. The traffic jam in KL really sucks... Can't imagine there's still heavy traffic jam despite midnight. We stuck in the heavy traffic jam in Jalan Kuching for one hour plus... (cos of the road reconstruction and road block, ending up 3 lanes bcome 1 lane). Poor Kenneth.. He must be very tired..

Reached the hotel at one something in the early morning. Have a good night sleep :)

Tweety...

A little girl wants me to buy bak kua for her ...
But instead of buying bak kua, I end up buying this..
since I find that this "sleepyhead" little baby tweety is very cute :)
And that little girl is also known as "tweety" as well :)
why ah? cos when she is small time, her few hair stands like tweety hair :P
And she likes to sleep as well... :)

Little girl,
Hope u like the soft toy (wink)

a night in KL

We had claypot Bak Kut Teh for dinner :) The BKT here taste much better than the one available in Penang :)

After dinner, we went to a nearby pet shop.. See lotsa cute puppies & doggies inside there, eg. miniature pinscher, miniature schnauzer, shih tzu, chihuahua, cocker spaniel, labrador retriever etc etc.. I like the miniature schnauzer & the little miniature pinschers (2 months plus brown-coloured brother & sister miniature pinscher). The two miniature pinschers puppies are so closed to each other; They play together, hug & cuddle each other.. so cute and so adorable.. :) Reminds me of my little doggy when he is small time.. :)

Most of the time when I visited KL, I will stop by in this shop (Koong Wah Tong) in Petaling Street to have a bowl of chinese herbal jelly, aka Guillingao(龟苓膏).

Later on in the night, we went to Bintang Walk . At night, Bintang Walk truly comes alive; the whole place is beautifully lightened up. That night, we saw lotsa Arabian tourists on the street.. After walking for a while in Bintang Walk, we stopped by at the street-side cafes near the BB plaza. Had a glass of teh tarik while sitting down enjoying the live music from the street band. :)
Went back to hotel at 12 am... Tiring day :)

Trip to KL

Went to KL on Thursday morning.. I was on call on Wednesday. Didn't really sleep that night cos I had few referrals at night time & early morning.. Only manage to sleep for 2 hours plus that night. Feel very tired actually. I went back home at 9 am & departed to KL at 10 am. Slept for a while inside the car on the way to KL since my hubby was driving :)

Stopped by in Restoran Jejantas Sg Buloh for late lunch; eating satay, from the "Sate Kajang Hj Samuri" corner. :) Nowadays, we don't have to go to Kajang to taste the Sate Kajang already..

Stop by for a while in GHKL to look for a friend of mine. Reaching GHKL reminds me of the "good old memories"... since I spent 5 years over here during my undergraduate days.... from June 1993 till April 1998..

After that I went to the Kamal medical bookstore to buy some medical books.. We used to buy our medical books from this bookstore. I don't know how much money I have spent on medical books already.. I think at least few thousands.. Since medical books are not cheap and we can't photostate most of the books..

I bought 3 books altogether, which costed me Rm308. One of the books I bought is Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine (OHCM). I bought one copy(the 3rd edition) earlier on already during my 3rd year medical school or Phase 1 of my Clinical year. This book was like the "bible" for the medical students.. We carried this handbook together with us previously wherever we go when we were inside the hospital. Now it's the 6th edition ready.. Since there are so many changes & updates in the new edition, so I get the new edition as well, adding another new copy to my medical books collection :) I need to get a new book shelf already :)

Praise & Worship CDs

After lunch, we went to Salvation Book Centre to buy CDs. We bought 3 Praise & Worship CDs altogether..

Eternal God by Don Moen (I have this cassette already), but I prefer listening to CD, so buy another one loh.. This is an earlier powerful worship CD of Don Moen, produced in year 1990.

Thank you Lord by Don Moen - the famous musician, songwriter, singer and worship leader. He has been in the music ministry for over 30 years & he has recorded at least 19 worship CDs. I like his worship songs...

Songs 4 Worship - Devotion, (Volume 21) - a co-branded Praise & Worship compilations series.

I'm playing the "Eternal God" CD at the moment ... I like all the praise and worship songs inside this CD.. Nice songs. eg. Praise Looks Good on You, God Will Make A Way, Ascribe Greatness, You Are Eternal, God Is Good, Now Unto the King Eternal etc etc...

Lunch in Dave's Deli

Went to church this morning together with my hubby after coming back from work. After the church service, we went to Midlands Shopping Mall. We have western food for lunch, in Dave's Deli. My hubby ordered lasagne.. I wanted to have lasagne as well for lunch initially, but too bad, only one piece left.... So, I let my hubby have the lasagne & I resort to "kai" or chicken instead; Since he wanted to eat lasagne so much & I don't really fancy it ;)

This is what I have for lunch... The promotion set - Dave's Famous 1/4 Roast Chicken with Mashed Potato and Coleslaw; mushroom soup & garlic bread with iced lemon tea.. :)

Went to meet a friend as well in Midlands; whom I get to know during my previous trip to China (visiting the The Three Gorges on the Yangtze River) in September last year; So fast time flies...
almost one year already :)

Haze..

The sky is clearer yesterday late evening, and thanks to the downpour this morning, the sky is much more clearer today.. Now the sky is quite dark, hope it will rain soon :)

I was on call yesterday in hospital. Yesterday while doing ward rounds in the ward. I noticed every patients wearing face masks as well, not in one ward, but in all the wards. Btw, I'm wearing face mask as well; the surgical disposible 3-ply tie on type of face mask. Out of curiosity, I asked the ward nurse what is going on... And I was told that this was an order from the hospital director. Well, something good actually.. :) I hope this action was taken not because the the minister & the state health director is visiting my hospital yesterday morning, but the hospital director is really concern about the patients health...

Haze in Penang :(

Haze start to hit Penang today in the late afternoon.. :(
Things turn blurry & visibility drops..

In fact, haze just hit Penang not long ago (in June 2005). I took some pictures as well at that time & posted on my blog on this topic as well.. Really "thanks" the Indonesians for the unregulated open burning of their forests and farmlands...... :(

I took some pictures of the blue sky at 6 pm yesterday eveing.. (don't know lah.. yesterday, I had some sort of instinct that haze might hit Penang anytimes... that's why I took those pictures yesterday evening..) I snap few more photos this evening, around 7 pm. Can really see the differences..

Obesity in kids

Obesity is really a major concern nowadays, cos we are seeing more & more obese kids, some not only obese, but morbidly obese :( Obesity can leads to lotsa health problems & complications..

Lately, I have seen more & more obese kids in the hospital... And in fact it is increasing in number.. The most obese kids I have seen so far (until today) is the 9 year old boy with body weight of 106 kg !!! He is too morbidly obese till he can't breath properly with his own effort & needs ventilatory support. This boy really needs jaw wiring or gastric stapling leh..

And just few days ago only, I have another patient, 8 year old girl came with acute appendicitis for appendicectomy. She is 60 kg !! (More heavy than me :P). The amazing thing is that her mother is so small, tiny & thin.. When both of them were together, u can really see the contrast --> the "big difference". Her mother is underweight & I estimate her body weight to be something like 40 kg or less :O. Apparently the father has passed away already & she is the only daughter. So she is damn manja (from what I observed), & I think the mother feed her whatever she wants.. just my speculation.

Another obese kid that I see lately is a 10 year old boy with body weight of 80 kg !! and some more this boy has leukaemia... still can grow up to this huge size :O Actually, I have seen many more of these obese kids previously & I really lost count how many are there altogether...

Birthday Dinner at Oriental Seafood

Having birthday dinner (my hubby's birthday) together with my hubby & my father in law & sister in law in Oriental Seafood in town (Macalister Road). (Not the one in Gurney Drive - the price there is much more expensive than the one in town, that one mainly for tourists :P )

Mmmm... Order many nice dishes today. Food are quite nice & delicious. The price is very "nice" as well :P But never mind lah, birthday once in a year only mah..

Guess what is this? Hahaha... first time I eat this actually.. This is King Crab or Horse Shoe Crab.. It is also known as a "living fossil" cos it has been on earth for millions of years. Heheh.. we are not eating the flesh (well, cos there's no flesh to eat actually..) but eating the eggs !! Not very tasty but it's something special :)

And this is the eggs............
The next interesting dishes is the mantis prawn/shrimp or also known as "lai liu har" in Cantonese. The flesh is very minimal only but it's something interesting as well... The mantis prawn that I eat previously are small one & these mantis prawns are damn huge. Not cheap as well :P Won't try it again lah next time, since no flesh to eat.. Eat the normal shrimp better :D

Black Pepper Crabs. This is one of the popular dishes which we always order when we have dinner in Oriental Seafood. I like the hot & spicy taste... Delicious.
Well, cannot order meat only since it's not healthy.. Must have a "balanced diet". Must order one dish of vegetable as well... This is the stir fried kai lan with garlic. Something simple, in comparison to the other dishes that we ordered.....
Next on the list is steamed fish - Steamed Garoupa Fish with black soya sauce. The fish is very fresh & juicy, quite well prepared as well...
This is the Lala. Nice to eat when served hot.
Last but not least, birthday noodle with shrimps, taugeh, green vegetables & haybee or dried shrimps.... Our carbohydrate source for the night :)
Everyone is happy with a really full stomach after eating all those nice dishes.. :) We sapu the dishes till clean :P Not leaving a single trace of food behind.. Hahhaa...

Hehehe.. Birthday Cake is a must on birthday mah.. And this is the birthday cake :P
The birthday guy cut the birthday cake at home lah... Quite a while after the heavy dinner loh...

Cockroach

Guess what... This is what I found on & off in my on call room ???

Cockroaches.... Whenever I see this insect, I will have "no mercy"on it... This is the end result - the death cockroach.

This picture was taken yesterday night with my palm Zire71. Quality is so-so only :)

I don't like cockroaches; it doesn't scares me off, but it's irritating & annoying seeing this insects wandering around .... The worst is the "flying" cockroaches; Well, cockroaches normally will only "fly around" during rainy days or rainy seasons.. Disgusting if one of those creatures fly & then land on my head lor .. Errr.. Hope that won't happen :D

One of the interesting HK TVB comedy tv series "War Of the Genders".., by Dodo Cheng Yu-Ling & Dayo Wong Chi-Wah. In this series, Dayo Wong has a beloved pet cockroach, called "Siu Keong". He even shared his cup noodle & other food with his beloved "Siu Keong". So funny... :D

I think many knows about the Fear Factor tv programmes. I remember watching one of the episodes long time ago whereby the contestants had to eat, chew & swallow the live cockroach. So disgusting.. How can people put those yucky things inside their mouth & chew? Unimaginable.. Now I stop watching Fear Factor already after that episode :P

"major event"

Last week my hubby told me there's some major event coming soon on our way back home from dinner ... I ponder & think about it.. Err... Now is August already, kekekke... I know what event is coming soon liao.. His birthday :P Nearly forget about it, paiseh...

We are going out for seafood dinner tonight together with my father in law & sister in law :)

Yam Cake/芋头糕

This is one of my favourites :)
Bought this from one of the hawker stalls when I had dinner outside earlier on.. For my supper tonight :P Very delicious & yummy..

Well, I seldom take supper, but the yam cake or 芋头糕 is very tempting leh.. Yam cake is easy to made (simple ingredients like yam, rice flour, dried shrimp, preserved radish, shallots, red chillies, spring onions etc etc..) but I'm just too lazy to made it myself (no time as well lah..)

God will make a way

I was listening the Praise & Worship songs by Don Moen, God will make a way. Very meaningful song :)

In the beginning, God created the heaven & the earth, & everything in it, including the first man & woman, Adam & Eve. They lived in this perfect place called Garden of Eden. God told them to enjoy what he had given them. They were told not to eat from "the tree of the knowledge of good & evil". But they disobeyed God & ate from it!

From that moment on, everyone was born into a broken relationship with God & separated from Him. But God wants us to be in a relationship with Him. Therefore He made a way for it to happen. When we could not get to Him, He made a way to come to us. He sent His only son Jesus Christ to be "the way." Now, we can have the personal, loving relationship with the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. He made a way when there seems to be no way.

God will make a way
God will make a way
where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love & strength for each new day
He will make a way
He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven & earth will fade
but His word will still remain
He will do something new today.
Nothing is impossible with God.

"With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Matthew 19:26 NIV

Reflection

Dig out some of my old cassettes (my collections during my university time). I have lotsa collection of Christian songs & this cassette is one of my favourite. Fire To Gold by Pastor Aris Siew from Praise City Church, KL. Can't remember I bought the cassette at which year, but I think it's at least 9 or 10 years ago already.. I like all the songs inside the cassette, especially this song, "reflection".

Reflection
Make My life to be
A reflection of your design for me
So that I might be who i'm meant to be

Spirit of God come & move in my heart
Let Your perfect Will be mine completely
Father I pray may this day bring a brand new start
Only You can teach my heart, Your ways

My God You know me so well
I'm so prone to take an earthly path
From vain affections set me free

Let me fix my gaze on
Your wonderful face, Your excellent grace
Let me be anointed of You
O river of life, come flow deep inside
Though my part be the smallest
My only concern in Your fame
A reflection of your design for me
O I want to be whom I'm meant to be

Spirit of God come & move in my heart
Let Your perfect will be mine completely
Father I pray may this day bring a brand new start
Only You can teach my heart, Your ways.
